WOO SUPER EXCITED

So yeah this is gonna be my first Ludum Dare.  I’m gonna make it in Multimedia Fusion 2 which I’m assuming they have no problem with.  I just hope their okay with getting the source as a .mfa.  I’m just about as amateur as they come, so this’ll be quite an experience.  Overall, I’ll be satisfied just as long as I think what I make is fun.  I’ve started a lot of projects that I’ve abandoned because they weren’t any fun, so it’ll be quite a challenge to get that fun factor in only 48 hours.  My communitying sucks lol.

Just gonna say…

If I beat Notch I will be the happiest person to have ever lived.  (the most self-riteous one to)

Shouldn’t you try to beat a previous winner?

lol

Hell if I don’t finish last I’ll be pretty damn satisfied.

You want a screenshot?

I’ll give you a screenshot. Rox Gunner and the Cavern of Loneliness.  So far, it has easy where health regenerates and hard where it doesn’t.

And the game’s going fantastic.  Should have story mode done by tonight!

Sort-of Update

It’s way to small to read, but what it says is: “You got the minigun!  For legal reasons I cannot tell you how much it costs to fire this weapon for 12 seconds.”

Like a Boss

Listening to “Like a Boss” while making a boss like a boss.

Another update!

There is now a kitten in the game.  If you can find it then you’re probably the best player of 2d overhead 360 degree shooters ever to live.  And here’s a quick screenshot of the final boss.  The game can now be completed from start to finish!

So here’s the deal…

Anybody who can provide me with a video of them playing through and completing “Rox Gunner and the Cavern of Loneliness” on hard mode within the voting period will personally be mailed a box of cookies.  That’s how confident I am in its difficulty.  The story is essentially done, just some minor touching up and searching for bugs.  Screen shots to come.

Some extra time.  Added survival mode!  And if anyone can tell me what to put for URL on my application, that would be very helpful.

Rox Gunner and the Cavern of Loneliness Post Mortem

Well I learned a lot from this.  First of all, the controls are much less self explanatory to the people playing it then the people programming it.  And also you should probably have it switch to the first weapon automatically, cause nobody’s gonna figure it out that they have to press the switch weapons key to get it.  Sorry to everyone who downloaded it and couldn’t play, that was my bad.

I’m in!

So… I really just want to do this without making the rookie mistakes that I did last time.

I’m just using Multimedia Fusion 2 for code and graphics.

For music & sound I’m allowing myself garageband and audacity, seeing as how I have access to both MacOS and Windows.

My last statement.

With the  compo starting later tonieght I decided that my original I’m In post wasn’t good enough and so I would make another with an updated list of resources.

  • Multimedia Fusion 2
  • Microsoft Paint (Maybe)
  • Audacity
  • Garage Band (Big Maybe)
  • My own (limited) artistic skill and scanner.

So that about does it.  I’ve learned alot about how to do the code and the creativity right this time, so I look forward to seeing hundreds (hopefully thousands) of entries, most of which will be better then mine.  It’s fantastic to see so many first timers.

I’m hoping that the theme will lend itself well to a multiplayer component, but then again all you need is some creativity to make it work.

Oh and I may use some prerecorded sounds, and my intro screen, but other then that everything will be original.

So… I haven’t posted since the start of the compo.

Let’s see… it’s almost done.  The theme is expressed primarily through the story, although the actual game world is pretty small.  It’ll be easier then most of the games that I’ve made, but that’s not saying much.  Today is sound effects day so…

LET’S MAKE SOME NOISE!

Well then… how ’bout a Moonmen: Journey to the Giant World post-judging post-mortem?

287th overall… yah that’s pretty bad but I was up against some FIERCE competition.  I’m satisfied with my own work.  I’m particularly proud of of the fact that the platforming engine came right out of my head on the spot, first 2 hours.  And I did WAY  better then last time.  As for things that went wrong… I had a downright humiliating screen falling off bug in the first version.  Something that should not have happened with my level of experience.  I also admit that the physics were broken.  Everyone did great, so I’ll see you in winter.
