Signal Box: My First Game Jam & LD59 Submission!
Hi everyone! This is my submission for LD59—Signal Box! It is a Sokoban-style puzzle game with a unique twist. I'm thrilled to have completed this project. This is actually my very first Game Jam and my first time participating in Ludum Dare! 🎉
⚙️ Core Mechanic: Why "Signal"?
I extracted the physical characteristic that "signal transmission takes time" and turned it into the core gameplay. In this game, your commands are not executed instantly; they take a few turns to reach their destination!
This completely changes the strategy of traditional grid-based board games, shifting the focus heavily towards prediction and positioning.
✨ The "Double-Execution" Trick
During development, I noticed a really cool emergent interaction: when your signal crosses the delay boundary from far to near, it can cause two turns' worth of commands to execute in a single turn! I feel this design has massive potential for puzzle-solving. However, due to my lack of experience in skill and level design, I couldn't fully flesh out this mechanic. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to expand it!
