First time!

Hello everyone! This will be my first ludum dare, and I’m really excited for it! I’m a programmer and currently I’m studying game development at PUCPR. I’m still learning how to create games, so unless the theme is very simple I’ll probably join the jam, this time.

My tools will (probably) be:

  • Language: C#
  • Libs: MonoGame. If I join the jam, I’ll also use a small helper lib I created from previous projects.
  • IDE: Visual Studio 2012/MonoDevelop/Xamarin.
  • Graphics Paint.net.
  • Sound Sfxr and whatever else works at the time.
  • Maps: Tiled.

Looks like a good setup, remember as things get hard it is not the themes fault. Good Luck.

It works!

It’s… something!

It's working!

After some problems with our core lib (my partner is an excellent programmer, but his code is almost incomprehensible), I finally got something working! Now I’ll really start doing the game part! I’ll try to keep things as simple as possible on my part, and hope for the best.

Also, our sprites right now:

Starting now

I’ll be joining the jam, this time. My game will be a super hero game, where you have to save people in different situations. Your score depends on how many people you saved in 10 seconds.

That’s it, seems simple enough and has potential to grow, if needed.

Our team!

I didn’t talk about our team for this jam, so… I’ll try to briefly describe everyone here:

João(Programmer): João is an awesome programmer, even if his codes are a bit too complicated sometimes. He probably can do anything with C#.

Diogo (Programmer): That’s me! I’m also a programmer, and also doubling as Game Designer and posting updates and screenshots, for this project.

Melanie (Artist): Melanie was a programmer who recently changed sides and became an artist. She’s learning just now how to make pixel art, and it’s turning out exactly as we wanted.

Moisés (Musician): Moisés is our musician, working remotely. His work is amazing.

It’s incredible how our work is going smooth right now. We’re already at 62 commits on github, and with a little more polishing our game is pretty much good to go. New screenshots soon!

End of the first day.

So, the first day comes to a close. I’m tired, my cold is getting worse, but I’m very proud of what we made. The game is going a lot better than I expected it would. Tomorrow we’ll add a bit more polish and maaaaaybe one or two extra levels to it, and that’s probably it. How is it going? Click on the thumbnail to see:

Now, I’ll rest a bit and continue tomorrow morning.

It was fun creating the game…

…but seeing how the others react to your game, and playing everyone else’s games is an incredible experience!

I think I’m a bit addicted to Ludum Dare. Please, someone, help me. D:

(Great work, everyone!)

10 Second Hero – Linux testers wanted!

Linux support added to our game! We compiled it so Mono shouldn’t be needed, it works on our machines, but we would love if some Linux users could test it for us.

We are also working on an OS/X version, but since only one of us has a Mac, it will take more time, sorry :)

You can see the game HERE

Maybe I’m in?

Ok, not much time to do anything, but I decided to join. Maybe I can do something in a few hours? (since I won’t have much free time tomorrow?)

Wish me luck!

good luck!

That’s it for me…

Could not get anything decent working on time, and I have a lot of other things to do, so… that’s it for me. I love the theme, but my personal life got in the way. Maybe next time.

At least I learnt that my OpenGL skills are VERY rusty. I really need to practice a bit before I try to do anything with it again. It was good using a bit of C++ again, though. C# really has spoiled me a bit, and it was kinda refreshing, have to worry about things like memory allocation/freeing, references, linker errors, build events and all that hellish thing. I love it :)

Good luck for you guys!

I’m in! (And late!)

I’m kinda late but… I was messing a bit with Unity3D and 2D Toolkit, and decided to do something simple for this jam, while I learn it.

Will I be able to complete a game? I hope so. Anyway, my tools will be Unity 3D, 2D Toolkit, Paint.net, Inkscape, and anything I can use to make sound, if there’s enough time. Wish me luck!

It’s done!

Screenshot01

That’s what I could do with the few hours between deciding to join and now. It was fun, I learnt a lot, and got some experience with Unity3D and 2D Toolkit. As an unexpected extra, also discovered cgMusic for procedural music generation. As an extra, it’s my first time doing everything alone on a jam. Oh god, how I appreciate artists a lot more, now.

That was fun!  I can’t wait for the next time! You can play Swim for your Life here.

I hope I can join

I’ll have class the whole day saturday, but maybe I can get something done using the rest of the time.

Tools:

Engine: Unity.

Language: C#.

Coding: Visual Studio.

Art: Paint.NET, maybe Blender.

Sound:  sfxr and whatever I can use to make music.

16 hours to go…

And after a lot of failed prototypes, I think I finally got an idea that could be cool. Hope I can make it to the compo, even if it’s a very barebones game.

Didn’t like the theme, but seeing what you guys are doing with it, it’s clear that the problem is my lack of inspiration. Good work, everyone!

And I’m out!

But best of luck for your guys! Some fantastic games are coming from this theme!

It didn’t work with me, maybe next time! 😀

LD29

Late, but I’m in.

Or at least I’ll try. I’ll be busy all the day today, so I’ll have only one day to create the game 😀

Trying something “new”.

Engine/Editor: Construct. We’ll learn as we go.
Graphics: Paint.Net
Audio: bfxr, anything I can find to generate music.

Doing this with some friends, probably in less than 24 hours. Let’s see if we can get something done.

Not the ideal, but if we fail, at least we learnt something.

…and I’m out. Again.

I just discovered that I have some things to do today. Oh boy.My time was already short, but now I don’t think I have time to make anything worthwhile. Maybe next time.

And I loved the theme this time, too :( Welp, there’s always the Mini LDs, until August.
