Whoa, I’ve finally done my entry for the Jam.
It’s been a lot of fun despite some little unforeseen events that have slowed me down.

Here’s the entry, playable on web (Unity web player required), Windows, OSX, Linux & Android.

End of Day One

Here’s an image on the progress so far!

It’s a very difficult theme, I’ve come with the idea of this concept only 3 or 4 hours after being awake (about 7h in the Jam), but I certainly like how the game is shaping up!

A little screen

Yesterday I’ve worked at basic movement script for the game, today I’m adding some gameplay objects.

I don’t know how the game will be called D: 😛

A little gif…

I know that LD users loves gameplay gifs 😛

a Tree is finaly finished :D

a Tree is a collaborative asynchronous multiplayer game.

Play as a root to find water to keep the tree healthy.

So far already 18 players have played the game 😀 (here’s a little screen of the roots :D).

Tomorrow I’ll post a simple post-mortem :)

I’m happy to announce that 70 unique users have already playied the game :D, and with that bombshell here’s the post mortem

What went right:

almost everything, in fact the game isn’t much complex so it have taken not so long time to program. The few bugs were found & fixed very fast.

– graphics, I’m not an artist so I made the graphics as simpliest as possible.

What went “wrong”:

server code. I always hated database & co, so it took a lot of time to create a functional back-end for the game.

What could have been improved:

gameplay, the gameplay can be expanded a little bit also I like the idea of customized servers and a bigger play area.

Fun fact:

At the beginning of the play stage there was a little sound that resemble the grow of a root (actually is a leather scretched)

The sound was removed after a test on my android phone because it sounded like a noisy fart.

The fun part is that if you wait a little in the root view and then  play the game you can hear the fart noise 😀

Jimmy hates fun post-mortem

3

First of all this it’s maybe my favourite LD of all I’ve entered, the “entire game in one screen” theme it’s a lot wider than the pasts LD but it’s also very difficult to stay attached to that when making the entry.

What went right:

-Graphics: I’m very proud of the graphics of my entry, it’s very simple but effective!

-Gameplay; It’s very simple and barebone, but it also have a bit of resources management to keep playing,

What went wrong:

-Unity: I always use Unity for my games, but with Jimmy hates fun I’ve had some bug/problems that I’ve never noticed in the pasts version of Unity. Actually I’m using Unity 4.6 and sometimes the baseballbat or the grenade changhe their size when picked up, and I don’t know what cause that bug as I do not scale objects during the game.

Some Tip:

A part of the gameplay is to discover what the objects will do when trhown, but for thoose who want pick up & play right now here a little tips:

– Grenade: It “kills” only one enemy;

– Baseball Bat: kills up to two enemies;

– Ball: kills an “infinite” number of enemies, in fact every time the ball bounce back when it hits an enemy and so on until it touches the ground 😛
