So, I’ve finished my first full LD. It was a load of fun, actually! I kind of nailed the process I need to take in order to make something:
- Take the whole week pre-LD to experiment with thoughts about what to make.
- Then, just when LD starts, scrap all of your ideas. The previous point was just a warm-up.
- Do a game and add cool things while developing. DO IT.
- At the end of day 2 marvel at the tangled pile of wires that your code is.
Aaaand what’s the game? It’s a simple thing, like an infinite runner, where you have to avoid incoming cars, and collect those of your color. If you collect 3 of the same color in a row- you get a lot of points. You can change your car color via a paint-box on the road.
So where is the actuall gameplay, you’d ask? It’s game over if you hit a car of a different color.
And the fun thing is, all the cars you collect are in a “Car Train” after you. They got a silght lag after you react. They don’t instantly steer as you do, they take their time.
I hope you’ll check it out and inspire me to continue on this one. Check it out here.
