Hope, Despair, Progress, Pixels & Bacon.. to accurately describe my first day of Ludum Dare. Is it actually legal to have this much fun making games?

Starting out with me doing pixels & Ingimar doing letters, we were suddenly joined by another artist and a really cool sound dude with a massive beard. We were also joined by the refreshing smell of burning pork, as the annual Bacon Festival was held just outside the office! How nice!

At the end of the day though, we’ve got the base set of art assets and navigable environment. Amazing!

Time for some sleep before Day 2, a day filled with improved pixels, more letters and less bacon.

.. and perhaps, sneak a kitten in there here as well, somehow!

Albeit a bit of a distraction from the outside world, we’ve gotten a build working, physics going and pixels planted.
So far, so fun!

Good tip for all of you out there:

Make do with bare minimum of what you can get away with, get everything working up to a reasonable point and then spend a bit of time on polishing stuff! Half-finished features can sometimes do you worse than fewer features and better polish.
(AKA “Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing”)

CONGRATS Solos #LD48 for being done!
I’m super excited to get to play all the wonderful games I’ve been seeing in the updates here and on twitter! And to discover all of the ones that I missed! I can’t decide on what’s more fun, developing my own stuff or experiencing what others have been doing! So congrats to everyone done!

For us in it for the Jam, lets keep at it! An entire day (or well, afternoon after work) to spend on finishing and polishing! It’s been another long day here with more progress and more pixels here. We’ve even got a title screen now!

I noticed today that we’re far from being the only one with this play of words… (Hello lessmilk & ViKing Games)

… and all that in 48/72 hours!

And now, to review 2491 games (what…) over 20 days. That’s 124 games per day, or about 1 game every 12 minutes!

All in all, we managed to finish mostly everything, aside from some graphic issues and last minute score bugs.
We’re quite happy with it, all in all.
