First Ludum Dare

Obligatory joining in post. This is my first time joining in on the competition so we will see how it goes.

I will most likely use Unity3d with C#, but I also know UDK, so I might use that if it makes sense.

For art, I will be using Gimp.

For mixing I will be using Audacity.

Getting pumped for tomorrow, good luck everyone!

First Progress Report

Almost have a demo first level for my game done (I just started this morning). The game is about trying to get Seconds, in food portion terms. The protagonist is an overweight person who just wants to eat some more food. The playable character is the white square near the refrigerator looking thing (I hope to update the graphics when I get some more stuff done). The persons Wife (or other white square near the top of the screen) is trying to prevent you from eating more cake and she moves around the screen. The game is kind of like a 2d stealth game where you have to not be in the line of site of your wife or security cameras etc when you are eating. I am hoping to have 10 levels (10 seconds of food) in varying locations and will have various traps to try and catch the playing in the different locations. There is a simple Calorie counter for a score system. We will see how much I can get done by tomorrow!

Also I was curious how we submit our final game. Will we have to host the game downloads ourselves? Thanks and good luck everyone.

Woke Up Late, Rush Time!

After waking up late, now I am not sure how much I will finish by tonight. I am hoping to have at least 3 complete levels, plus an intro level by the deadline, but we will see. I originally wanted 10 levels, since my game is about going up for a second helping of food, or seconds, so I wanted to have 10 seconds but we will see how far we get. I still need to figure out a name.

GameInProgress2

This picture shows the basic gameplay. The player is the square in the center and must avoid getting into the line of sight of cameras, robots, dogs, his wife, trip wires etc as he tries to sneak to the kitchen to get seconds.

Just In Time!

Finished my first Ludum Dare. My game is about sneaking seconds (trying to eat another plate of food).  You have to avoid security cameras, aliens and your wife to sneak into the kitchen to eat a second dessert. You can download the game from my page http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=26574. I recommend downloading the “Windows” version (which is really a Unity Web player version) since some of the text gets messed up with the Kongregate Web version.

Hope you like it, or find it mildly amusing at least!

Indie Speed Run game/October challenge

Hello everyone. I’m the guy that made that pretty mediocre, but kind of funny little 2d stealth game Going in for Seconds for the last Ludum Dare.

Well I made a game that is completely different (and hopefully much better) for the Indie Speed Run! Unfortunately, that 48 hour competition is not as awesome as Ludum Dare, and does not provide a way for people to give feedback.

This game is a 3d horror-adventure game about bad habits and circus acrobats. The game play is similar to Slender with some extra elements and story (and some 48 hour cutbacks).

I am planning on creating a game for the horror themed Asylum Dare this weekend and would love some feedback on this game (and maybe after combine elements from both games to try and fullfill the October challenge).

My game, Cirque du Accro, can be played here on the escapist. I would love some feedback before the next event this weekend, and if you want to rate the game that would be awesome too (maybe get my one dollar from being a finalist in that competition). Thanks everyone!

I’m in sharkJam plus some horror games I made in 48 hour jams in time for Halloween.

This is my obligatory “I’m in” post. I have no idea what type of game I am going to make yet. But I will most like be using

> Unity
> Gimp for picture editing/ drawing any assets
> archive3d.net for 3d models
> freesound.org or bfxr.net for sounds

I will definitely not be making another horror game (my last two 48 hour comp were horror related) but I’m sure I will think of something. Recently, I have been testing/creating some super mario galaxy like gravity, so maybe I will include some of that.

Also, since it is almost Halloween, if anyone wants to play some slendermanish like horror games made in 48 hours, I created one for IndieSpeedRun 2.0 and one for Asylum Dare.

The first is Cirque Du Accro that I created for Indie Speed Run. It involve acrobats and some woods near a circus and some bad habits such as alcohol and cigars (My theme was bad habits, and special element was acrobats), which you can play at my post on IndieSpeedRun. Unfortunately, I just found a bug that can prevent you from finishing the game (damn you 48 hours!), to prevent this, try not to grab each item more than once (some of the items take a few seconds to disappear, so trying to grab them multiple times before they disappear can prevent you from finishing.

The second horror game that I made for Asylum Dare is called Midnight Stroll and can be played from my post on the AsylumDare website here.

Sharkdare midway post

I wanted to make a quick post about my game so far. I have kind of settled with a first person shooter with some evil sharks you must destroy. I might call it something like Shark Attack 9 from Outer Space. I have two sharks so far, one that is just a shark that will go around the map. I might add some guns on his side later. I also have a shark that wheels around on a cannon that will fire at the player. So far I have the basic physics that let the player and the enemies walk around any arbitrary curve. Right now I am just using a sphere for the level, but I might try and create a more interesting shape later. Plus I will try and make it more sea themed or something.

I also created the basic gun for the game. It has a normal shot just by clicking, but by holding down the shot button the orb bullet gets bigger and I will hopefully make it deal more damage. It also has some bounce effect to allow bounce shots

Unfortunately my heart is not into creating this weekend, but I am trying to force myself to put out something. Hopefully I can create something somewhat fun and complete by tomorrow night.

I’m in maybe probably halfsies

I can’t dedicate too much time to this LudumDare unfortunately but I will try and make something in a few hours. Please be one of the good themes! (‘No Violence’ I think is my favorite since it fosters creativity and tries to get games that are far away from generic arcade style games).

Unfortunately I also don’t have my good computer so I pretty much have to do 2d even though my art is terrible (see the game I made last time if you need any details). This is my second Ludum Dare, but I also contributed in the mini ludum shark dare a month ago and made a game for Asylum Dare and the Indie Speed Run. I think I will be using the new Unity 2d tools. I will probably use freesound.org for music unless I figure out a way to quickly make my own music, I might use the sfxr for other sound effects. Finally, I will use gimp for art.

Good luck everyone and merry ludumdaring!

This theme makes me sad

Starting I guess. Kind of disappointed with this theme again. We will see what happens.

Yeah, me too. But I’ll be damned if I let this stop me. (And I wish I had done “minimalism” too instead of discarding it…)

End of first night

Going to bed, work today makes me too tired to stay up later. I decided on an ‘Adventure’ (the game ‘adventure’ on atari) style game. I’m feeling like I will not have time to finish since I will be busy the next two days. Maybe I can have a small prototype of the game by sunday night. The theme will encompass many of the gameplay elements. You can only have one item at a time, you will only have one key yet there may be more than one locked area, you can only get one life, blah blah. Trying to fit it wherever it will work. My large plans is to have multiple paths to the ending but I doubt I will get that far. Here is a screenshot of the first tile world. Goodluck everyone!

Im out

I’m out this year. I had no time to work on the game today and the polygon2d collider in Unity is very crappy and I don’t have time to do all c. I don’t have time to make separate box colliders for my entire map and I had not much else done. Good luck everyone else. Maybe I will submit a complete version of the game I was working on at some future time.
