This post started as a shameless self promotion, but quickly grew into a list of my favorite games so far. Let's get the self promotion out of the way first, shall we?
*AHEM*
Tired of playing games that actually require you to THINK? Fear no more! Sploosh: A Guinea Pig Saga is a chill adventure where your only goal is to explore.
Features:
- Hand drawn!!!
- Super big open world. Like, really big.
- (Allegedly) cute animals like guinea pigs, llamas, crocodiles, and jellyfish
- Did I mention jellyfish?

Whew! That's enough shameless self promotion for a long while. Let's balance it out with some shameless promotion of other people! (opinions incoming, brace yourself)
Most inventive mechanic (so far): Dungeon Painter -
Reveal the level as you go by shooting paint! (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/dungeon-painter)
Best art and theming (so far): Yermak
Super cool papery art style paired with an awesome mood. The game itself reminds me of Oregon Trail! (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/yermak)
Trippiest Game: Dark Waters
This game is pretty relaxed, but their crazy take on diving and just the 3rd dimension in general was enough to make me go 'whoa' (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/dark-waters)
Best puzzle game: Deep Roots -
Making a puzzle game for a game jam is hard, and this is a cool take. Control three different roots trying to get to water hidden deep within the soil. This game is super cool. (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/deep-roots)
