I finally caught up to my rate trades and now I'd really like to play some games with a big focus on original music! I played many games with great soundtracks this jam and even made music a big part of my game, and hope to do so more in the future.

Bit of a personal post this one.

So, doing jams has been my thing for years, I've participated in LD since 45 and done other ones before, it's one of the things that most give me joy and I try to never miss them, I used to do at least 3 every year.

Unfortunately, the entire last year I did not join a single jam. Without going into much detail, I felt constantly anxious, depressed and lonely, the worst I've ever gotten in my life. My priorities had shifted in weird directions and I could not enjoy myself creating at all, not just for game jams. Since then I've kind of irreversibly turned myself into an emotional train-wreck.

Things have been looking up for me though, I had to make a lot of difficult decisions to stop myself spiraling even more, and eventually felt good enough to join this jam, even managed to bring a friend to work with me at very short notice for which I thank him very much!

How grateful I am for that decision. My interactions with people on this site are so nice it's kind of overwhelming, I love playing your games, reading your comments, watching you play ours and seeing your reactions, I had no idea how much I missed this until right now. I honestly wish I could befriend all of you whom I've spoken to here, though for now I'm just very relieved. It's good to feel like myself again.

So I just have to release all this positive energy somehow! Thank you so so much to everyone who takes time out of their busy schedules to participate in this community, pour their heart and soul into a personal project, give love, give honest feedback and suggestions, and appreciate each other's work. I don't even know how to express how much I treasure you, the free emotional labor that goes into this entire operation cannot be overstated. That's beautiful! You're beautiful. I love you.

And all my best wishes to anyone who might also be struggling with their self-worth right now.

I think every Ludum Dare I made a post saying I'd be making a YT video about my experience but I ended up never doing it. Mostly cus I had no direction. This time though I already have a script, voiceover, and all the footage I'll need, just need to edit it.

It's about ~5 mins talking about making my game and ~5 mins showcasing my favorite games this jam, in a snappy <1min review format. Hope it comes out pretty fun! Don't consider myself a youtuber but I do like to pretend sometimes.

Number 1 in audio is actually extremely flattering :sob: I worked so hard on this song and making a game around it and I'm glad people enjoyed it so much, words escape me honestly.

As I talked about in length in a previous post, last year was an emotional roller-coaster for me. I cannot thank this community enough, and everyone who played my game, for the support and love. :love_letter: Regardless of my ratings, this is the LD in which I felt most welcome, had the most fun, and met the best people. Your words of kindness, critique and feedback mean so much it's unreal.

I also want to thank my mate @gaba for partaking this with me on such short notice, being an outstanding artist and person, really easy and fun to work with, and being the game's number 1 fan from the beginning lmao ^^'

So, I have an idea for a game that involves a lot of environments and backgrounds. Unfortunately since I don't have an artist this time, and don't have a drawing tablet or any screen to draw on larger than my phone, making backgrounds digitally is very difficult for me. So I tried my hand at Kritashopping and bashing many stock photos together to see if I could make something that looks half-decent:

I was going for a kitsch, collage, cottagecore kind of vibe and I think I got it, it's VERY corny JKDSJKDAS. Also kinda looks like a Mr Beast thumbnail but oh well. I'm still not sure if this is what I'm going to stick with for the final game, but it's definitely efficient. The source images are all from Unsplash, so I have the rights to use them, it took me about 1 hour to complete, and in case I don't have time, I can just use the paper sketches as graphics, which take just 5 minutes max to make.

Actually my original plan was just to take a picture of the paper sketch and color it digitally, but I found that to be too difficult.

If anyone has any opinions on the style or their own techniques for making graphics efficiently, I'd love to hear them!

I never look forward to this moment in any game jam, but I've now reached the point where the process has stopped being fun. Christ I just want to be done already, but with less than 50% of the game done, I'll probably go on for a lot longer.

I only keep going because I'm invested in my own story now, shame I'm never doing a story-based game ever again after this lmao
