LD21

My First Mini LD!

Im In!

I have some start. Let’s see if it will continue well.

Currently im working on the graphics(Not my strong side XD) and later on the code.

Wish me luck!

Progressing…

Yes!

The squares and the rectangles are working good! Oh yeah!

Programming speed is pretty fast (yay me!). And my partner is working on better graphics than mine (I still think that squares are cool).

Good Luck Every One!

It Is Playable!

We are progressing very fast and our game is finally getting his real shape!

Everything works O.K. and the game is pretty stable and playable!

The main idea of the game:

There are many slimes(or maybe microbes/viruses?) at three different colors that are roaming on the screen.

You have to put the blue slimes on the blue area, the red ones on the red area and so on…

While a slime is not on his area he lose some health. If a slime is on the wrong area he lose double health.

When a slime lose all of his health he dies(obviously). When a slime is on his right area he stays there till the end of the game!

ToDo:

+ Add menu screen, help screen etc

+ Add score(high score board?)

+ Add levels

+ Spawn slimes at randomly places, times and amount

+ Add more awesome graphics

+ Think about more cool features!

+ Decide if they are slimes or whatever they are!(Please help us)

End Of Day 1!

YAY! Finally finished day one!

For a first time on Ludum Dare we were pretty good(I think) and we had alot fun!

We managed to build our game far ahead than what we expected.

Timelapse of the fisrt day on youtube (-:

We have some tweaks ideas for tomorrow but generally our game is pretty finished!

I will sleep good now. Good night! (or maybe good morning?)

Final Tweaks

After a good sleep we are going to do some little tweaks to the game and then we will submit it!

ToDo:

– Implement Kongregate API (Highscores)

– Add a bakground

– Add some music

– Create instructions page

– Create an about page (dont forget me on the credits)

– Eat something

FInally submit the game!

I am going to use:

  • As3 – FlashDevelop
  • Flixel
  • Chronolapse
  • Dyyno (I think that I’m going to do a live stream)
  • Alot of candies chocolate water cookies…
  • Skype (For friend’s encouragement)
  • Graphics tools (GraphicsGale, Inkscape etc)
  • Sfxr and maybe Aviary’s Myna
  • 48 Hours

So good luck every one and happy programming!

Warm Up!

So i’m also doing the warm up!

My friend gave me the theme: “dimension”

This is my game idea:

There are two players playing the same level but in other dimensions, one blue and one red.

You control them both, if you press the left key the both move to the left and the and if the right key they both move to the right and so on.

There are places where only the red player can pass and places where only the blue player can pass.

There are places where only the red player will die and places where only the blue player will die.

Their goal is to get to the end of the level without getting dead.

Also i’m checking my livestream at justin.tv.

ToDo:

  • Finish the programming
  • Doing graphics
  • Adding levels
  • Doing homeworks

Good Luck Everyone!

Good Morning Ludum Dare #22!

I slept pretty good tonight and I’m ready for LUDUM DARE!

My cat is sitting near me and give alot of encouragment! Thanks Tom!

Watch Me live!

Just saw notch’s livestream, he is amazing!

Gameplay Almost Done

So it went pretty well till now.

Main idea:

There are peoples that are alone…

Your goal is to make them meet eachother.

I like the concept. I tried the work in progress Flash you linked and I think it has a lot of potential.

Yummy!

Only in Ludum Dare you can eat a whole box of chocolate without noticing it!

(5 minute ago it was full!)

lol!

Nice idea! But these stickmans are just placeholders (I think).

None Alone – Postmortem

So, after I had some time to relax from the latest great Ludum Dare #22 I have the power to do my first postmortem! Yay!

Overall

I actually managed to finish a real game in less than 48 hours! Something that I never done before!

I got the idea of the game very easily: ALONE = Lonely People = People who want to meet other people = We have a game!

The idea was that there are lonely people who don’t want to be alone anymore and you have to help them meet each other.

1. Getting the platformer basics to work And the people AI

This part was pretty easy:

  • I used flan to create a simple map.
  • I programmed a simple algorithm which took an exported flan map and added blocks to the screen according to the exported flan map.
  • I programmed a simple people AI which made them walk to the left until they hit a wall and then go to the right and so on…

2. Making the simple tools

At first I had some problems with the tools so I made two types of blocks: airBlock and dirtBlock.

  • When the player clicks a dirtBlock and the tool which is selected on the inventory is item “0 – Hammer” the dirtBlock should turn into an airBlock.
  • When the player clicks an airBlock and the tool which is selected on the inventory is item “1 – Dirt” the airBlock should turn into a dirtBlock.

3. Making the trampoline and the game over screen

  • Added a trampoline which you can place on the map and when a people overlaps it the people is launched into the air.
  • Added a game over screen which is activated when someone falls out of the screen.
  • Added a little fade in fade out between levels.

4. Making a lot of new levels

Making a lot of levels with some help of my friend idea.

5. Day 2 – Making all the menus and implement Kongregate API

Making the menus was very fun and fast!

I am pretty familiar with the Kongregate API so it was also pretty easy to me to implement it on the game!

== At This Point I Finished The Game ==

To summarize

I was well prepared to the competition and it helped me a lot. I know flixel and Flash Develop very good and it was fun to make a game with them.

In addition, I made a game in the Mini-LD and the Warmup so I was even more ready to the compo.

I had some great times on my first LD, I am looking for next LD and I am very proud of myself that I managed to build such a game (I’m fourteen years old).

Placeholders Are Amazing!

So good morning everyone!

I just started to work on my game 2 hours ago.

I got the main idea of the game.

I really need some graphics…
