Ludum Dare 52

Joining the Compo after a long while.

Last Ludum Dare I participated in was the 45 Jam, the last compo I did was 42. 10 Ludum Dares later I'm going to do the compo again. Mostly due to forgetting until the last minute, so I didn't invite anyone to help like normal. Oh well.

I will be using: - Unity - C# - Clip Studio or Gimp depending on the art style I feel like doing. - Git, Bitbucket - for version control - Probably something like sfxr, my face or something for sound, not really sure yet.

My goal is to finish something. I have been starting a lot of games over the years finishing very few of them, but ludum dare always forces me to finish something. Hopefully that will give me more motivation to finish one of my bigger games.

Good luck every one. Never give up, never surrender. Lets go finish something!

Loosing motivation :(

I got really far my first night, this morning I don't feel that motivated. I don't know why. Maybe my game idea sucks. I don't know. I'm going to take a break and come back in a couple hours and see how I feel about it then.

Here is a screenshot of how far it is now.

Anyone have any suggestions on helping with motivation?

This is an awesome, motivating community!

First of all I would like to thank the community, you have helped keep me motivated working on this game.

I have been very motivated the last 4 or so hours. I have implemented most of the audio, which includes music. With only 20 or so hours left, I feel like I'm almost done. I guess I can start considering some of the features I cut early on.

Here is its current state:

Spaceship Harvester - Post Mortem

First of all I would like to thank my wife letting me take the time to work on Spaceship Harvester this weekend.

Within the first 30 minutes of the jam, I was able to come up with an idea. A few hours into it I had a prototype done. Controls were a bit wonky, but I proceeded to add artwork to feel more like a game. I was able to get all the graphics of my initial prototype done and working. Then I went to bed. The next morning I was burnt out after working at my 9-5 job + Ludum Dare for about 7 hours. I posted here that I wasn't motivated, and had some nice comments that helped boost my self esteem. They liked how the game was coming along. I took a couple hour break and got back to it, motivated again, yay! I focused on just completing the game, getting all the scenes, buttons, sound, music, etc done. Let my family play it a bit for feedback. Then went to bed for the night. The next morning I played it a few times and added the things that my family mentioned that would really help, and wasn't out of scope :) I then proceeded to build/host my game. Had some issues there, but in the end it got finished.

I would like to thank the community here, they are so positive and help lift others out of their funk so they can make something cool.

Good luck every one!

The Good: - I finished! - Happy with the art - Happy with sound/music - Overall I accomplished my goals. - Learned more about particle effects in unity. - Learned an easy way to do screen shake, which I have never done before.

The Bad: - The controls weren't the best, I was able to improve them the second day. - Lack of Motivation from burnout

All in all I think I did great.

See you next time :)

And go try it out: https://gamejolt.com/games/StarshipHarvester/777749 Thanks!
