Definitely something

Doesn’t everyone just love to cut mutants?

Doesn’t everyone just love to cut mutants?

not only you get to cut mutants, you can also meet the Weird Tusk Monsters!

Saldo for the first day:
map finished
engine finished
5 out of ~15 areas finished
I’m really happy about this progress. I’m quite sure I’ll be able to finish the rest of the areas tomorrow.

Are you familiar to the feeling when you’ve just submitted a game and then realize that there’s a random game-breaking bug in? Then you spend 2 hours fixing it while acknowledging that the deadline is coming nearer and nearer and you should already be asleep.
I had such case yesterday; I had just submitted my game, when I realized that the map system doesn’t somehow work in the compiled game, even though it runs fine in the editor. It was already 23:00, and I was about to have school the next day, but I anyway had to fix that thing. And sure it was difficult, because there was no logical reason for it to bug like that. Way to go, corrupted objects.
Anyway, amazing LD as usual, I really enjoyed creating my game and there are lots of amazing entries this time! I’ll post a video where I beat my own game, again, because I guess I made it once again too hard for others than me.

The video proved out to be terrible quality, but I wanted to record a playthrough of the game. I think I might also do a run with all the crystals (the “all out run”) and a run with the secret ending.
anyway, enjoy this bad-quality video at vimeo: link

Oh Ho Ho! The island creates itself! Now to work on water and the player movementation.

My forest went wrong!

Yes, it’s slowly coming together! Next I should start thinking what I want to do with this engine…

Uh oh!

Prepared for battle!
(Also a build menu!)

I think I’ll leave this here for today. I’ve now spent 13+ hours on the game, and I’m almost perfectly happy about how it has turned out. If I have time, I’ll try to make the user interface as easy to use as possible, because all of my earlier entries lacked horribly in that department.

New day with new tricks! I started by adding ladders, and fixing the hugely buggy building mechanism. Gotta fix it up more later on.
Bleh, I have to drop some of my original ideas – there’s really no “proper” gameplay in other than harvesting/building, and I plan to have several different enemies.

Now to work on the game over screen!
One man.
One game.
Two hours left.
Two enemies left.
YEEEEAAAAH
Yess! Made it in time, kind of. Here it is, the Paradise Fort!

So yeah, here it is! I’m overall very very happy about this Ludum Dare, and having already voted on some I see that there are plethora of great entries.

I enjoyed the compo thoroughly, and I was so happy with my entry that I’ll sure keep working on it! I’ll probably add more enemies, cannon types and such stuff, along with online highscores. You can see some of the new enemies in that screenshot – the Poison Bomber, and the Balloon Bombs.
