Ludum Exam

Greetings everyone,

My name is Dusan (Dušan), I'm from Serbia and I'm gonna tell you how I got here as short as possible, since it's my first Ludum, wanted to introduce myself. Friend motivated me to start learning about cryptocurrencies (beginning of January), I dived into that area and start realizing that I know so little about computers and how they actually work so I decided to take a step back and start from beggining (in short). I wanted to get a feel for code (like really simple stuff, HTML/CSS), web programming sounded fun (at the time, I had some browser games in mind, little did I know) so I dived into that (CodeAcademy, YouTube community I salute you!). I wanted to see a wee bit of everything, basics (to advanced): HTML/CSS/SASS, JavaScript, SQL, PYTHON. Execution of this plan could go better but what's done is done (only in terms of laziness). Fast forward, I remembered my friend who started learning UNREAL engine, he also told me to check out PYTHON, but I knew that was C++ and I didn't wanna go down that path at the beginning. Fast forward, YouTube search lead me to BRACKEY'S (wonderful channel, now, I might add BLACKTHORNPROD, recently discovered, quality learning channel) video "How to create a video game". After watching that I knew I wanted to try Unity (by making Cubethon). So on July 28th I made my first lesson/project "3D Physics", following the amazing UDEMY tutorial(/tutorials, you need to look everywhere, I used that "modular" approach for learning and it's great, might seem overwhelming at first, but all that data makes sense really soon, as you keep on learning and most importantly - CODE, which I kinda failed to do, or at least I could've done it more) which lead me to a next course and more youtube videos. Heard about LUDUM also via Brackey's and I kinda saw a good opportunity to check my progress. That's why EXAM in the title. This is a great event and a great way to test yourself and get your name out there in time. This is an amazing journey, learning about game development and I think I finally found my calling. :)

Best of luck!

P.S. I graduated from Faculty of organizational science, Quality management and Standardization, so no programming background at all. And I'm 28.

P.P.S. Team: my friend (learned C++ for Unreal, game dev. begginer, so we are not compatible as engine goes but we'll make it work) and me, so it will be fun. Also, I learned GIMP at basic level, BLENDER and BOSCA CEOIL for music. Gotta catch 'em all. All (at least I will try) studying references will be linked when we finish this project (hopefully). Cheers!

The Last Duel (unfinished) - action, arena, rpg, 2D

THE LAST DUEL (THE LAST SEAR, alternative since it's in progress unfortunately)

LINK: https://horus90.itch.io/the-last-duel

2D action, arena, rpg, it was supposed to be dynamic, retro, "realistic", co-op (maybe even random dungeon exploring / survival with random waves) and skirmish, 1 KEYBOARD 2 PLAYERS (maybe more, with custom binding). Scene1 - CoOp Scene2 - Skirmish and so on. However, me being the beginner and having only one busy mate as help for JAM kinda bit more than we can chew in this amount of time plus getting a wee bit sick this last day didn't help (-.-), but I will try and finish this as previously intended since the mechanics and work behind this kind of game will come in handy for future work (solo projects, preparing for December :P).

Custom creation menu is missing, along with sounds, animations and many, many more :/

Oh, the theme: idea was - 2D game, starting with small flames in the background that keep growing, pointing that the fire is getting closer in which point COLLIDER would become active in bottom part of the screen allowing players to move "down", making illusion of depth, Z axis. And flames would become small again, indicating distance from players. So, less and less space. :)

Lore really caries this idea. =D =D

This is from concept.txt (thanks Sublime!).

BRIEF HISTORY

Constant strugles for power, wealth and resources lead to The Last Sear - lasting for circa 42 years, the whole, very small world(planet) of Bimundi is burning, leaving less and less space for it's inhabitants. As seen from above, less and less battlefield more likely.

Hopefully, at least Gods are entertained with this kind of grotesque.

PACT OF DUEL

To reduce the body count, a pact has been made. Three "great" leaders met under night sky on terrifying, desolated planes of Burnstride, vast, fertile land that's been burning for 42 months, non-stop. Instead of leading their armies, they decided that 1 duel, between their best of the best soldiers will decide the ruler of the remaining world. Time and space are scarced.

It is the End Time. The last duel ever fought is about to beging. Prepare yourself.

You're in final round.

RACES

Coldr - northen men, extremly frigid climate, winds and blizzards are common per day. + X% cold resist, HP ???

Warmd - southern men, humid air and extremly warm climate made them tolerant of very high temperatures. + X% fire resist, STAMINA ???

Highborne - mystic, some would say family, group elite that ruled before The Great Sear. Constant well nurishment and lack of stress made them more vital. ("Popularity" made them to become quick on their feet.) + X% HP, STAMINA ???
