Ludum Dare’s been on my radar for years, but this’ll be my first attempt – still not sure I’ll find the time to do it, but will give it a shot for kicks.

I wrote a quick boids implementation last night which I may or may not use, but just open sourced it. MIT licensed, so use it however you please

I’ll be using JavaScript, browserify and a bunch of modules on npm. I’ve been writing a fair few reusable bits of code over the last couple months, so it’ll be interesting to see how much they help. May also play with node-webkit if I have the time!

The theme is a little loose, but essentially each round lasts 10 seconds – at which point the enemies start to get harder. I prefer the look of my last entry, but this feels like more of a game, and it was really fun to try and get it feeling a bit more fast-paced.

As per my last two attempts, I’ll be sticking with JavaScript, NPM and Browserify. This time I’m contemplating giving WebGL a shot, now that I’m getting more familiar with it. If I have time for some backend work I’ll use Node too, but that’s probably pretty unlikely.

I’ve got a fair few generic open source modules which I and some others have written which I’ll be using as the base of the game – in particular, Mikola Lysenko‘s gl-* modules and whatever I need from this list or my own repos
