Done, as far as I can go

Didn’t get into the flow as much as last time, but here’s a game for you!

Destroy the invading pyramid aliens with your stonehenge ship!

If you click the image, it’ll take you to my entry. Play the game from the web link, the embed doesn’t like my portait mode game.

Check out Jar of Life!

This is my seventh Ludum Dare (5 compos and 2 jams), but for some reason 20 votes seem so far away :-o

This is my second jam-category entry and because the team contained an artist there are actual graphics, too! :D

Our game is about trying to make a small ecosystem last as long as possible. The game ended up a bit more abstract than we intended, but you can still go for highscores. No web build, but there are builds for mac, linux and windows.

Whew, I'm spent. Also my compo entry!

Wow, what a Ludum Dare!

I think this is my seventh time or so, second time with Haxe Flixel (which I'm loving more and more after each time). Pixaki on the iPad is also incredible, and I've been able to fit it into my way of working beautifully. Still doesn't make me draw any better, but at least it's fun to use :D

So, here's what I came up with!

Build some structures!

Zap some monsters!

So, it's tower defense, but with a power grid mechanic. I hope you like it!

Once you're finished ogling the incredible coder graphics, head over to: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/crystal-menace To read some more and play it!

We're in and we've made a possibly useful thing!

Yay! Ludum Dare is almost here again! I can hardly wait!

Going with a team this time and as it's very likely that we're going with HaxeFlixel, we made a template to act as a base for the LD project. Just to avoid the annoyance of setting the basics up.

It contains a menustate, a gameover state and a gamestate as well as tilemap loading and arrow controls. The graphics are just solid colors. We're starting with that, I hope it's useful for someone else too!

It's likely that we'll tune it (the structure needs some simplification) a bit still before the jam, but if anyone wants to take a look or comment (or use it), feel free!

You can find it at https://github.com/hunttis/haxe-ld-template

Phew, finally done!

Our Jam entry, Astrofarmer is finally done!

This time we worker in a team (I usually compo) and it was great fun! Other people really help keeping you motivated as personally I was having a bit of a motivational crisis at the end of Saturday. We stepped back and took a look as a group what we had. We came away with the understanding that we already had quite a lot. Just a lot of fine tuning needed to be done. Working on tiny bits somehow prevented me from seeing the whole.

I hope you'll try out our game and leave your score in the comments (with any comments you might have, of course :D )

Now my brain needs a pause, I'll start reviewing in a few days.

Participating in compo mode after a long while doing jam mode

Whew, it's going to be interesting trying this out in compo mode again.

I updated my template project (Haxe + HaxeFlixel) yesterday, it's on Github, if anyone else wants to use it.

https://github.com/hunttis/haxe-ld-template

I can't promise that the instructions for setting up the dev env on an empty machine are updated, but if you run into trouble, let me know.

It contains a simple menustate and a gamestate loading a TMX tilemap and simple platformer physics with keyboard control.

Just a wish for future Ludum Dares

Rating some games right now, and having some difficulties finding games that I can run on my mac!

If you're using an engine that supports making a web build, please use it! That opens up your game for play on mac and linux (and probably chromebooks too). Much easier to play and rate the games when the web builds are there :)

Cheers!

Oh, and if you like, try my game out too :D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/dont-wake-a-sleeping-vampire (it's a platformer)

Ludum Dare 45

Finished! With the biggest team ever!

Screenshot 2019-10-07 16.11.18.png

I think this is probably my 9th or 10th Ludum Dare out of which about half have been compo-mode entries and half jams made with a team.

We had a lot of fun with a big group as the tools were quite new to us and that leads to a lot of learning. Gimp is really powerful in creating stuff out of nothing, like textures! Unity is really powerful in being productive in a relatively short time. Blender is really cool once you just get the hang of the basic tools you need to know to make things.

I hope you try out our game, we had a lot of fun making the cutscene(s) and the levels! Playable in the browser and we have native builds for mac/linux/windows if you prefer those.

Ludum Dare 46

Whew! That was a lot of work, but it was fun :D

Alright.. So we got something done :D

It's playable, completable and the audio side is pretty great. I'm actually also pretty happy about some of the graphics, since I did them by sculpting in "Forger".

I'd appreciate if you did try it out and a review will net you a review from me :)

Participating, using Phaser and Typescript this time!

I just noticed from my website that I have participated in over 10 Ludum Dares :open_mouth: I've worked with a lot of different techs, Phaser (JS/TS), HaxeFlixel (Haxe) and Unity (C#) being my favorites.

This time we're using Phaser and Typescript to go with it and we built a simple template to help us get started.

You can use it too, if you like!

It uses snowpack instead of parcel or webpack for added development and download speed! If you check it out, let me know!

Whew, Crystal Racer is done!

Had soo much fun this time. We decided to try a new way of working on a jam game so we went with VS Code Live Share, where we code into the same files on the same computer at the same time. One can see in real time what the other one is writing and changes are immediate.

Had very little trouble with it, as we had agreed on how to edit the game beforehand (always try to edit in a way that doesn't explode the whole project).

Also we managed to think of a small enough scope for the game, so we had time to polish on the second day. I hope you enjoy our jam game!

Ludum Dare 52

In for sure, but at what time?

Definitely joining this time again!

Using Typescript + Phaser and this template for it: https://github.com/mjviljan/phaser-template

But is this really starting earlier than before?

It's showing that there's just 1 day and ~13 hours until the event starts? That's a Friday! It used to be on Saturday very early morning (like 4AM or something) in Finland preiously.

Ludum Dare 53

Compo entry! It's not that polished, but I made it! :D

Hadn't made a compo entry in ages, so I sort of knew what to expect. Bad time management, so much to do, so much feature creep, so little time

Oh well, the only casualty this time was the music, which I simply didn't have time for. Well, the sounds aren't that great either. But the game is completable!

So, if you have a moment, give Data Heist a try!

Participating for the umpteenth time

I don't even know how many Ludum Dares I've jammed in, but still up for another!

Working with a team this time and using this very barebones template for Godot that one or our teammembers made: https://github.com/mikaelbarlund/godot-template

Ludum Dare 57

Definitely in!

Yay, it's that time of the year again!

Joining in with Godot and using this template as a starting point: https://github.com/bitbrain/godot-gamejam

Procedural tools

Heya folks!

I understand that generative AI things are not cool for making graphics for Ludum Dare, but what about tools like Tilesetter?

I mean, I have to draw all the graphics that it will be mixing, but I still wanted to make sure this won't rule me out of the graphics category.

I'm not an artist, so doing the graphics will be a big time sink for me and if I can save time with Tilesetter, I'd probably like to do that. I still kinda like the art that I do, so if tilesetter is not ok, I'll just do it all manually.

Ludum Dare 58

Here we go again!

Entering once again!

Godot is my jam and so I made this template that you can use: https://github.com/hunttis/ludum-dare-template

It has the basic structure of a godot project with a main menu, options with volume sliders and a game state. No graphics, no audio, just code. It also has a github-ci workflow, so if you fork this and add your itch.io api keys and such into your forks secrets, it will automatically build and deploy your games web version to itch.io.
