Here I come, Ludum Dare!

Here we go.

I spectated the last Ludum Dare and loved it, and since then I’ve always wanted to participate (thanks to Ciprian/Addictgamer) and now I’m going to be! Yay! A little something did happen just last night though. My original plan was to use pygame, which not many people like for optimization reasons (if you’re reading this and plan on using pygame, good on ya!) and thanks to another post on here I discovered my dream game engine, LÖVE. I have experience with programming but have never used Lua before, so I’m going to be somewhat seriously screwing around for the next few hours before the Jam starts. Yay.

Well, here’s my tool plan:

Code: LÖVE/Lua

Graphics: A bit of GIMP or MS Paint

Audio: Audacity and maybe if I get the time a bit of Fruity Loops

and for any of you who are interested,

Streaming: Open Broadcasting Software

Also, I’ll be dedicating my work to two people. Mercedez Anderson, for being the light and meaning in my life, and Robert Hughes, who is having a hard life right now and I want him to know that he’s cared for.

GL HF, and I’m probably going to suck but I’ll try to suck with style,

I’m dropping out. I wasn’t ready.

Hey friends.

I wasn’t ready at all for this. Not one bit.

I made a huge mistake in my code and am very disappointed in my level of work, I thought I could do a lot better than I have. I’ve also had some emotional struggle with even believing I could do this. I’ve never finished anything before, and I thought this might be the first time I actually do. It didn’t turn out that way. Hey, I did get a lot more work done than I usually do, but…alas, I guess I’m just not mentally ready this time.

I saw some really cool ideas going around the IRC and I know a lot of these games are going to be awesome. I wish all of you luck and can’t wait to see the end result.

There’s always next time I guess,

IceHusky

+1 to “You still have another 24 hours” – don’t give up! Make something super small instead, that way you’ll learn more and be more motivated next time!

Late Entry

I’m ready this time guys. Let’s do this. I have to enter the Jam because I just barely moved into a new house, and even then I don’t know if I’ll have the time to do this. I’m more wanting to use this as an excuse to pump code out,  and that is what I shall do.

Language: AS3

Engine: FlashPunk

Graphics: GIMP and Paint

IDE: FlashDevelop (if it will work, technical difficulties have arisen before with said program)

AHA! Gotta love imaginations!

Alright, thanks to the marvelous noddy2006 from Reddit, I got a base idea. At first I felt a bit cheaty even though he clearly specified he wanted someone else to make it, but I have built off it.

Recently, I lost someone very close to me. She meant everything to me, and I lost her due to my own actions. I will dedicate this game to her, and if I don’t make it by the deadline, I’ll continue anyway.

The base idea of the game, is you can only see one color at a time, but the actual level is made of red, green and blue, all of them opaque. You collide with all layers, including the nonvisible layers.

The story is about the nameless protagonist losing the only security he has. When she leaves, the puzzles begin as life gets more and more complicated. He weaves through life anyway, sometimes wanting to give up, but never doing so, to find his lost love.
