How to make games with code?

Hi everyone, I have a little problem.

I have quite a bit of knowledge with coding but no program to use it in to make a game.

I don’t know how to apply the coding knowledge I know to make a game in a program.

What do i use? how do i use it?

Please help me?

What you need is a framework, engine or graphics library (and sound, and input).

Game Maker is quite good and deceptively capable.

Java has its own graphics library called which is sometimes used in LD48 games.

Try looking at the source code of previous LD48 entries to see what language/engine/framework they used.

I’m shocked them no one has mentioned starting with a Flash/AIR game. ActionScript3 is a very forgiving language and Adobe has good documentation not to mention the countless number of tutorials one can find online. My team at work has experimented with the “Adobe Gaming SDK” (Starling framework, and others) and found it easy to set up and surprisingly powerful. Another nice point is that AIR builds to Win, Mac, iOS, and Android. If nothing else, it could be a good place to start.

Anyone in need of a new member

Hi everyone i know this is a longshot and might not be the place and time but i am looking for a team to join as i wanted to start my own but i don’t have enough people, and i really want to do this ludum dare.

I am happy to do anything although my strengths lie more in coding and ideas and design, I am not that great but i am looking for more experience and any bit helps.

I’m In, first Ludum Dare!

Ok lots of thinking and i’m in, alone but in.

Will be using Unity 3d with blender as graphic and Language as javascript.

Nervous but i hope i do ok for my first time.

Edit: And i will use sfxr for sound and paint for textures.

Let’s get this started, All the best to everyone

Character Motor in Unity

Hey guys

Just thought i’d ask but can i use the Character Motor that comes with unity to move or do i have to make my own script for movement like that?

pretty sure i can’t use it but just thought i’d ask in case i get short on time.

In the thick

Ok, so i have a level, a few animations(Unity is horrible when it wants to be for animations)

no idea what i’m doing and still don’t know how to make a timer.

no screenshots to take very very limited gameplay.

for a first attemp at Ludum Dare, i going with failed but there is always tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone, read a few blogs and looking really good for lots.

Game Over

Ok tried and tried for about 5 hours to fix my script and move on in my game but it’s impossible with my knowledge so i think it’s over for me.

no music or sounds, only one level and a bad menu with really bad graphics.

atleast i tried.

can’t wait to see other people’s games.
