Ludum Dare 46

So much for social distancing :P

Hopefully we can get online multiplayer working for our game. Otherwise, local coop is going to be interesting. But we have an idea and have plenty done.

And now for something completely different

3D Animations are done (albeit there was only one to do). And yes, the action is deliberate (trying to look Monty Python-esque, but in 3D!).

Congrats everyone!!!

Well done to all those who finished! And Valiant effort to all those who didn't!

Now go play some games (after you finish working of course).

Feel free to post your game in the comments.

And now to shamelessly self plug (feels so dirty, ugh)

We are soooo close to 20 reviews, and I absolutely hate to do this, but our game can be found here:

You really should play it with a gamepad if you can (I don't know who on my team chose the control scheme but admittedly it sucks for mouse and keyboard); if you can't, make sure you have a physical mouse with the ability to middle mouse click. Read the instructions first, otherwise https://youtu.be/6Ls5j5iz2eA?t=10

To help ease my conscience, please post/play your/other games in the comments, especially if they have less than 20 reviews.

AAAAAUUGHHH!!!

K, this will be my first time working alone in Unity (OH $%#@!!!)

I will be lucky to have anything done for the jam even, let alone the compo.

I'm basically using this as my final test after teaching myself C# and Unity in the last few months to flesh out my resume.

well...

I hate the theme, but what else is new, sorry to whoever suggested it. I've got an idea that is stupidly simple, but for this LD, I wasn't going to try and make anything mind-blowing, just trying to make something to test how well I've learned Unity (I usually do the design and aesthetics, but not this time, it will be lucky to have sound effects or music even).

What I have so far

Right now, nothing works as far as gameplay, but I should be able to get that working pretty easily

Aaaaand done

I know I could spend all of tomorrow, pretty much, polishing what I have and getting it totally feature complete, but I am fine and happy with what I have even if it doesn't have any sort of score tracking. For my first solo project in Unity, I am happy with the result.

Two games that haven't gotten much love

Am I biased for posting my friends' games to get more reviews? I don't care, they are both very well done IMO and deserve more reviews.

Lone Racer: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/lone-racer

Are Updates Kosher?

What is the official position on making updates to your game post-facto? Would I need to upload it as a new version on a new itch page considering it is HTML5?

edit: got it, going to make a separate upload

Updated because I got enough ratings

Here is the final version of my game: https://infinitycore.itch.io/janky-marble-v2

(please rate the original jam build if you want to rate it at all, maybe play that version first)

Screenshot 2020-10-12 070753.png

also, make sure to play and rate these two:

  • Lone Racer: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/lone-racer

  • Super Lucrative Opportunity Of Pouring Coffee: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/super-lucrative-opportunity-of-pouring-coffee

only six days left

Only six days left to rate, it would be nice to have as many games get scored at the end as possible.

One such game is https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/lone-racer made by my friend, currently sitting at 14.5 reviews (and don't just say that he hasn't reviewed enough to get noticed, he has reviewed over 30).

Get out and rate like you've never rated before!

Feel free to post your game in the comments, especially if you have yet to get enough rates to get a score at the end.

Another LD officially over

My sympathies to all the games that didn't get enough ratings, especially to those that had rated well over 20 other games themselves.

For future reference, I usually won't bother rating a game if they have more ratings on their game than they have provided to other games, regardless of whether they are in danger or otherwise.

It also greatly improves the odds of being played if it runs in the browser.

Congrats to everyone who did make it to be rated, be happy that you did.

I did not expect to get top 100 in any category. Color me surprised, especially considering I wasn't trying to make anything amazing this time around.

If you would like to play it, the most up to date version can be found here: https://infinitycore.itch.io/janky-marble-v2

It can even be played on a touch screen (though still through the browser)

New tech

Just got myself a Valve Index so my friend and I are totally thinking about making something VR (even if it means no one will play it). Hopefully it will be playable not in VR as well, whatever it is. It will also depend on the theme.

good theme, but...

Why is it that the simplest themes are always the hardest to come up with a good idea? Let alone one that can be feasibly made in 72 hours?
