Theme suggestions, I'm in, the usual.

Hi. I'm in. Again.

There is a non zero possibility that you played one of my games from the time when my username was SYRAPT0R. Well, I decided to change my name and appearance and can't wait for the next ldjam!

As pretty much always, my tools are - Game Maker Studio 2 for coding - BFXR for sound effects - PyxelEdit for sprites

For music, I recently switched from FL Studio to Ableton. I still have to learn some stuff important for game music but I should be able to do that until the jam.

So yeah, I'm ready. Let's make this jam a good one!

Oh, and of course, my theme suggestions.

Actual Level Design

I basically uploaded this earlier but I am almost satisfied with the visual polish now. Particles need a bit of work still but I'm really happy otherwise.

Quantum Split is out!

A better way to vote!

So you think voting on all those themes is too much work? Worry not! I made a small tool to automate some of your pain!

Introducing pyJAMa!

It's a small python script that can not only help you in looking more hackerman than ever while voting, it can also help you vote faster! You can now search all themes for keywords and up/downvote a chosen subset of them automatically!

Here it is in action:

bulk_vote.gif

(Ignore the name in the gif, I chose to change it after recording it because I am not affiliated with ldjam.)

And you can download it RIGHT NOW! Just head over to the project's Github Page and head over to the releases! Make sure to read the readme if you download.

Important note!

The program needs your LDJAM browser cookies to work. This is needed to communicate with the LDJAM API to send votes and to get the themes you still need to vote on. The code is completely open source if you have concerns about safety.

A small pyJAMa update

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, I released pyJAMa, a command line based improved theme voting python script and the response has been pretty great so far!

I just pushed a small update that adds an automatic update check to the program. This is therefore the only update notification I'll post on this site since from now on the script can notify you itself once a new version comes out. The changelog will always be available on the release page over at GitHub.

So if you want to download the update (or the script in general), you can find the repository HERE. Just click "Releases" to the right of the page and download the latest .zip version. Don't forget to read the readme, it answers a few questions that might come up!

Voting: check!

Voting is done! A lot of similar themes, reposts of previous themes, spam and obscure references later I have made it through. There were a lot more interesting themes this time around though.

Final thoughts

I saw the idea of reducing the amount of theme suggestions per user to one and I think it would greatly improve the voting phase. Many people seem to submit the same theme reworded three times anyway and I think people who want to submit actual themes will feel more inclined to make sure their one suggestion is of high quality.

Welp, that's the voting phase done for now. Can't wait to see the final theme and what everyone will do with it!

A basic gameplay loop is working

There is currently an impressive amount of two room objectives available.

... yeah, I need to make more varied enemies. And rooms. And objectives.

Trapdoor in the Garden is out now!

I am finally finished! After about 33 hours of combined work in the past two days, my game is finally done.

I present...

A top down roguelike game where you explore the mysterious trapdoor in your garden.

If you want to play it, click HERE!

Bug fixes and HTML5 web port!

102web.png

I just released version 1.0.2 of Trapdoor in the Garden! It fixes a bug that made the game unplayable in later stages (whoops) and finally runs as a web build to support more platforms.

If you want to play (and rate ), go HERE.

Also good luck to the jammers, you got this!

Did someone say game test streams?

As usual, I will stream some games during this and probably next week.

If you want to get some very valuable feedback and reactions to your game, you can add it to my queue HERE.

I will stream them on my Twitch Channel in the next few days. I will post the stream dates in the twitch schedule and I will post blog updates here when I go live.

It's coming...

update.png

Yep, Trapdoor in the Garden is getting a quality of life update that will be released once the voting phase ends. I'll wait until then because this update changes the gameplay experience a lot and I don't want that to influence the voting phase.
