Just to make sure I don’t end up cheating

So I’ve been working on a game for 8 hours now and I’ve been using a few free packages from unity’s asset store to put a bit of life into the game but then it hit me! Compo says that I’m to do everything from scratch which lead to this post now. So as I already mentioned I’ve been using 3 free packages from the Asset store and are now wondering if this makes it impossible/illegal for me to to submit my product for the compo? Regardless I’m sure that I’m allowed to upload it to the jam 😀

Yeah, it qualifies as a jam that way. But you can relax knowing that the jam allows you to keep working an extra day, to perfect your game ^_^

Day one soon over! (at least here in Europe)

So after long a philosophic discussing about what a “One Screen” is (here including that the monitor was a screen, the window of the game was a screen etc.) we dragged to the conclusion that what this theme must mean is that you should not have big fancy popup guis, and a mess like they have in MMOs but all infomation should be on the screen at all time, sort of like the old Amiga Dungeon Crawler games. The conclusion we took was that you didn’t necessary need to see the entire level of the game on the screen at once. We began to look at it make some rules to follow like; you should never be in need of waiting on a loading screen, need to have popup windows, or have a huge Gui to popup. You should simply have every single importance to the game shown on the screen at anytime!

With the rules set we made a brain storm and the idea we first began to relate to and find interesting was resource management. We than started to slowly find ideas we then started to look at basic game mechanics and stuff to get started and we decided to make a pixelated game in outerspace where you need to manage your crew members and resources of the ship, as well as buying and selling to aliens to survive your mission in space. Maybe most importance is the treats to the player, Pirates, Asteroid Storms, Oxygen, black holes, and many others we’ll probably won’t have implemented in the first version, but most important to manage your limited resources on your trip through space!

Now my fellow game developers, I give you one days hard work! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13581369/Game.gif (Image too huge to be uploaded – Sorry)

Some facts about my game “Spacey Trail” and some shoutouts!

Hey so I compiled a list of some (maybe) interesting facts about our LD Project/Game that I and maybe some others may find interesting!

The game is created by 2 people, Programmer: Jackie Christensen (@jacksendary) Artist: Bettina Andersen (@tinachan_ba)
Created within 72 hours – Rough estimate of time used actually working: Jackie: 36 Hours Bettina: 24 Hours
Created with Unity3D V4.6, Visual Studio, and Photoshop
First time using the new GUI system in Unity (was interesting to use for this project)
Total lines of code (LOC) (Estimated by Visual studio’s code calculation metrix): 746 Lines (all written by jackie)
First sub theme the game was created from was Resource management, with inspiration from Oregon Trail
Current state of the game very buggy
The event system (the most bugged part) was created within roughly 3 hours in the very end (not the smartest idea :D)

If you wanna play the game feel free to do so here: Spacey Trail
Final game intro screen
Early Game Gif

After now voting roughly 150 games we’ve found some that we though stood out and we wanna give those a shoutout!
Streaming Simulator: Hard and very interesting game: StreamingSimulator
Discord: Fun little Puzzle game with good potentials: Discord
LiliLight: One of the most beautiful games we’ve seen so far, and a very interesting idea: LiliLight
Lord Of the Dungeon: Cool Dungeon crawler, Platformer, RPG game: Lord Of the Dungeon
Press Enter: One of the game that I think was very weird but pretty fun idea: Press Enter

and there was at least 50 more games that as easily could have been placed on this list but I think these 5 was some that we really though stood out and we remember playing!

Dungeon Crawling and horror?

It doesn’t seem of much yet but holy shoots have it been bugging me/us! at least it looks better than yester day and we might also have overshot with the time as this seems really ambitious.

Not really the theme I hoped for, but I've got a few great ideas!

Hey folks my 10th Ludum dare, exited to be part of it yet again!

Although this wasn't my favorite theme I've some up with 2 ideas I like a lot, but I'd love to hear input from others too to hear what people thinks.

My first idea is to take a simple clicker game, and turn it into a multiplayer game where all connected players helps each other to generate power. I was thinking of making this very simple in a ASP.NET MVC solution using AJAX, a Webservice and a database. To make the game a little more challenging players needs to realise that their inputs matters, as certain combinations of resources may generate my power. The goal is to NOT run out of power, as the players will need to defend them self against an evil enemy - THE POWER SURGES!!! - if the surges drains the power completely the game is over and will start a new round after some times.

Second idea is an escape room, you are trapped in a room, there is limited power for you to use and solve the riddles within this room without also going insane! the game will be a smaller and simple puzzle adventure where the goal is for you to escape with your mind still sane, and before the power runs out, trapping you forever in what will become your tomb! This idea build a lot on either a game show, or the player being kidnapped, maybe saw? and now tested if he/she can escape in time without wasting resources. Game will be a 3D FPS made within unity.

Any comments or remarks? I think I'll jump to bed soon so I'll be well rested for the next few days, as I've been up for 24 hours soon (4 am here in EU) but I'd love to hear which idea people think is the most nice/viable? :)

A few ideas boiling But would love to have a artist to work with - Is that you?

So not really the theme I hoped for but I have a few idea which I'd love to see if someone else would join in on.

First of a Bullet hell game combined with some clever inventory management, OH YES did I mention this idea have an ass-ton of guns and powers?

Some sort of 3D or 2D parkour game where the space around you is literally running out as a room is getting filled up with random stuff! you must escape with your sick moves!

God simulator: Well this is for those who really wanna be horrible, imagine game play like Plague Inc but you're god which need to kill people with different powers to avoid the earth getting overcrowded/overpopulated and draining the earth's resources completely.

Some sort of game where items is abilities which you use you complete stages.

Some sort of space game where you litterally fly out of space?

Ps. I'm a programmer with 10 years experience and game designer. Hit me up on discord if you wanna make magic together: jacksendary#9565

Oh boy a weekend (I'm out)

So after Reinstalling windows, PC crashing multiple times, a project killed from reinstalling windows, and more... My PC finally seems to work as Corsair ICUE were a huge pain in the ass, but sadly all this have also taken so much time away from me i this weekend that I simply now must admit I can't upload anything.

My idea was to make a 3D clone of the game "Give Up" and I did also start yesterday (about 32 hours before deadline) to piece something together, which I'm not too happy about. So I decided this time I will simply not participate as I'm not happy with what I've made, but hopefully my system will be stable by December for LD43, and hopefully the theme will be more interesting at that time too.

Thanks all for this time, hope you all have made some amazing games, might see if I can play and review some of them later this month, but for now, I will relax, and enjoy the WoW BFA release later tonight.

Happy Jaming and playing!
