It was an intense 72 hours, but we managed to pull off a pretty good first version of a stealth game we'd been thinking about.
In The Kleptocracy of Rodentia, you control a sneaky rodent who breaks into the houses of rich cats and loots their valuables. Your only resources are your stealth and a trusty loot bag. However, as you fill your bag with more loot, it'll slow you down and if you're caught, you may have to ditch your heavy loot to escape.
The game's interactions aren't exactly where we wanted them to be, and the AI is laughably bad a lot of the time, but on the whole we were really happy with our game. In play testing, we discovered the beginnings of some fun gameplay elements, particularly emerging from the chaos of random environments and guard patrols.
There were also a few surprises that came up as we worked on the game. Although not originally planned, the game doesn't punish you with instant death when spotted, but instead gives you the opportunity to escape from a chaotic chase, and the bag adds an extra element of risk vs. reward, in that you can ditch it to get away faster.
We learned a huge amount from this jam, and would love to continue with the idea by improving the basic game loop and potentially adding a meta game, so that stealing loot and making money means something in the long term.
