How to prepare for Ludum Dare Compo in the midst of finals

Step 0: Learn a better definition for the word “finals”.

Step 1: Listen to the Retro Gaming playlist on Spotify, and a little bit of Jim Guthrie.

Step 2: Watch tons and tons of Blender tutorials. For instance, the one on rigging.

Step 3: Get free Unity Pro key, watch even more tutorials. This time on Intermediate Unity development.

Step 4: Mash random buttons in Sunvox. Make a cool tune.

Step 5: Futurama. ‘Cause nothing inspires more than the incompetent, loveable oaf Dr. John Zoidberg.

Step 6: Wait/watch a relaxing coffee gif while sipping hot coffee.

Thank you very much!

I’d forgot about sunvox! I saw it once and then forgot what it was called.

Game Update!

I quit my idea and started to develop my other idea instead. It’s now 5:30 am where I live, so it might be time to head to bed soon…

Anyway, my game now looks like this in GIF form(click image to open):

Game Update! Game is taking shape + physics glitch

Now it’s time to write the story behind all this!

In the meantime, here are some glitches:

I totally like where this is going :)

First LD done! And it was a Compo even!

Damnit, I’m starting to get addicted to Game Jams now. That should be a good thing right?

Accomplishments in this jam:

  • Watched a GDC vault talk to get inspired, and very valuable lessons about creativity.
  • Came up with an idea, coded and 3D’ed it, and scrapped it.
  • Drank less coffee than I normally do at game jams.
  • Ate more cookies than I normally do at game jams.
  • Finished more games alone than I usually do at game jams (Hint: I always work in teams OR never finish)
  • Made a small, cozy s0undtracky thing with my ukulele.
  • Managed to make a, somewhat, serious game with a narrative twist.
  • Made way too much messy, messy code.
  • Played with bones and rigging in Blender!
  • Made gifs!

All in all, I gained so much from this compo! Definitely not my last LD. Now go play, rate and comment my game:

Games I recommend

I played as many games as possible now. Being a Mac user, the game buffet is unfortunately a bit limited. But I thought I would throw out some recommendations so far anyway:

For aesthetics:

Dissidence by caporaltito

For Arcade fun and polish level:

The Floor is Lava by Slashee the Cow

For finding my weakness(2D in 3D space):

The Screen Pass by Tater_hater

Now I’m off to find some more games! If you can recommend some to me, leave them in the comments! Shameless self-promotion is a-okay!
