Ludum Dare 46

New and Excited :)

This will be my first Ludum Dare! I have heard about it on YT and got excited to participate. I'm fairly new to coding, I have had lessons at school for 1.5 years now, but only really simple things and mainly web design in HTML5, CSS and JavaSript. With only a few weeks experience of C#, I will today try out Unity. Hopefully I can learn how to use it to get a working game done during Lurum Dare!

Scaling things down

I had a wonderful idea for a 2D game that I would have loved to made. You are a pirate captain and have to find food, beer and treasure to keep your crew alive and if the crew is unhappy your life might be in danger ;) You can take the steering wheel of the ship and sail around and fire your cannon at other ships. Sadly, I'm still pretty bad at working with Unity and C#, and my laggy, slow laptop isn't helping either. So i found myself taking way too long on what seemed simple things and of course there was the cursed debugging. :sob: I might be able to finish it on time, however, I will not be able to implement all features I'd like and it would be far less than its potential.

So I have decided to change the gameplan and make it so you are a pirate on the ship and have to keep yourself alive against hordes of enemy pirates. This makes almost all of my code obsolete, but I think this will be easier to achieve. I might finish my old idea later, but not as a part of a jam.

Did I waste 2 valuable days? No, I learned a lot and would still like to revisit the project. Now let's hope I can make a simple fighter in just over a day...

Keepin' it Arr-live

Yesterday I sort of finished my game. I abandoned my old game plan two days into the jam, so I had little time to complete what I now have made. It is a pirate-styled fighter gane with enemies rapidly spawning and heading towards you. This was my first time participating and it was a great learning experience and provided a great goal!

I might add features I wanted to implement later, but until then please check my game out and leave a rating! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/keepin-it-arr-live (playable in browser)
