Not sure about the direction, but I got something working...

Concept:

You are a small planet that is overpopulated. You can to increase your spin and bounce space debris down on other planets. Clearing the current population on other planets allows you to send your pods down and take over the planet.

However you need to be careful, spinning too fast flings your own population into space...

Our team finished the first day. We feel like to concept is fun.

The more survivors, the lesser your share of the treasure at the end of the level will be.

Would be pretty unfortunate if someone from your team didn't make it. Right?
