Ludum Dare 49

Unfabled

And we're done! This was our team's first ever Ludum Dare and we had a fun time with it! We worked really hard on every aspect, and we think we made a really interesting experience! We went with the idea of volatile magic to fit the theme, so the action can get pretty intense after a while. Check it out here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unfabled

Wield the power to nuke an entire forest's ecosystem!

We woke up this morning to a spike in ratings! This is our team's first Ludum Dare, and we really had a lot of fun making it. We were so surprised to wake up this morning see 30 ratings on our small little game, within the first day too! We're always looking for more feedback, so if you have the time, please check out our game Unfabled!

Some game recommendations

I wanna take this time to hopefully give more attention to some games that need more love! These are some of my favourites I've played so far:

Interstellar Highway Robbery

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/interstellar-highway-robbery Super polished Doom-inspired FPS. It's really clean, fast-paced, super fun to play. Basically the only issue with it is its lack of sound, but it's super replayable regardless.

Tesla Coil

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/tesla-coil The combat in this game feels incredibly responsive, thanks to a combination of sound design, animations, and physics. It also has a really neat way of teaching the player how to play the game before even starting the game. Not to mention the graphics and art are pretty cool too.

MechaShift

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/mechashift A really fast-paced platformer, with controls that have a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you get used to them it flows pretty well. The amount of movement options they managed to add is really cool.

The Music of Unfabled

One of the things I'm most proud of for Unfabled is the music! I wanted to create something that sounded like an epic adventure as you were wreaking havoc on the forest in the game. I took inspiration from games like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy to create a short, but (hopefully) epic loop that plays throughout the game. For those who are interested, here's a standalone version of it!

You can hear it in-game here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unfabled

For other music people interested in what I used to make it, I use FL Studio as my DAW, the Native Instruments Kontakt Factory Library for the strings, horns, and piano, and the Spitfire Originals Cinematic Percussion samples for percussion. The Spitfire percussion pack is really cheap at around $30 or so, and sounds pretty great so I recommend it for people interested in making orchestral music on a budget. Kontakt is a lot more expensive, though, definitely get it on a sale if you can.

The End

It's finally over! Once again, our team had a very fun time with this jam, and were really surprised at all the positive reception we received on our game! Definitely a shock for our first ever Ludum Dare, but it's motivated us to keep doing our best! We couldn't rate as many games as we wanted to, as our real lives came and took over most of our time, but we were really surprised by the level of quality of a lot of games this jam! We also received a lot of valuable feedback for us to improve on in the future. Thank you everyone who played our silly little game!

Ludum Dare 53

10 Minutes Guaranteed!

And it's done! This was my first ever solo game jam and I'm quite pleased with how it went. I actually started creating a completely different prototype before I came up with this idea, so I ended up restarting completely from scratch 12 hours in after the first night.

Anyways, this is 10 Minutes Guaranteed! A short little puzzle game about delivering pizzas in 10 moves. Check it out here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/10-minutes-guaranteed

The Infamous Level 9

It's come to my attention that people think this level in my game is pretty hard. I agree. What was I thinking? How could I put this poor pizza boy through such strong mental turmoil? imageem2023-05-02/em141531596.png
