LD 40

My first Ludum Dare

It was lots of fun! I will definteltly participate more in the future. I haven't finishtd everything I planned at the start but I still think the game turned out pretty fun!

Grim Reaper now has a web build!

It was easier to build the game in web than I thought. I didn't have much time to playtest it though, so I hope it works fine.

Here's a link to the game if you haven't played it already! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/grim-reaper

Sound design tools

What sound design tools do you use? Sfxr and other tools that are based on it like bfxr seem to be really useful but it's really hard to make some of the sounds on them (or maybe I'm just bad at using them), so I was wondering if there are some other programs like this that people use.

Game is almost done!

Could probably rush it for Compo but I'm too tired already.

I still need to add: Menu, Difficulty Select (Wasn't planning on that one but the game turned out WAY too hard), Game Over Screen, Music and Sound Effects.

Here are a few screenshots:screenshot.pngscreenshot1.png

Commander, We Have a Problem! is finally out!

Commander, We Have a Problem! is a strategy resource managment game. Build factories, generators and mines to produce more resources while you still can because the game field becomes smaller and smaller as time progresses!

I strongly recommend reading in-game how-to-play page to help you learn basic mechanics.

This my 2nd Ludum Dare and I'm much more happy with a result this time! Had to opt out of sounds category though due to the time limits, but considering how bad I am at making music maybe that's for the best :D

Hope you'll have fun playing my game! Don't forget to leave comments, so I can check out your entries too!

The Hidden Gem.

I found criminally underrated game that deserves much more ratings then it has!

The game is called Overcloked. For such a short amount of time that was given for developing games in LD I'm surprised how well made and polished this game is! The most obvious comparison that comes to mind when you see this game is Tetris. And just like Tetris this game has a very simple game mechanics that together create a very deep game that is very interesting for both casual and hardcore players! The game might seem a bit too hard at first but please give it some time, because upgrade system makes the game even MORE deep and interesting.

You can play the game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/overclocked and check it out yourself.

Leave your highscores and tactics bellow I'm really interested in how other people play this game. Mine is around 7500.

And since I have a chance I will also plug my own probably much worse game that you can check out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/commander-we-have-a-problem. I would really appreciate some feedback on it.

What I Don't Like About LD

I've only participated in 2 game jams so far and both times I've got relatively low ratings, which I was really upset about at first but don't really care about now. Now I participate in LD just to have fun, not to have the highest score. But what I find problematic is that not a lot of people want to criticize your game properly. I'm not sure why, maybe they think that it's too harsh, or maybe they don't want to seem rude. But in the end they just leave bad ratings without explaining why they did that. And it's not very helpful. It tells me that my game is bad but it doesn't tell me WHY it is bad. I did get a bit of helpful feedback on my first game but this game jam I got almost no useful criticism. Some people said that the game is too hard or that it is confusing and while I can start improving on those things later it doesn't really tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Basically what I'm saying is that I would really appreciate if you could go and give me some critical feedback on my games.

Ludum Dare 45

The most boring theme turned into best LD I had.

When I saw the theme for the first time I was kinda disappointed. It's way too broad, almost all games fit this theme. I spent a few hours trying to think how to make something new and original with it but then decided to just make something fun and simple.

Results:

  • My first game without any engine! I used Unity before but this time managed to make a game with only Monogame. It was pretty challenging but really fun to do!

  • My first time doing Compo! Originally I didn't even think about participating in Compo, especially since I had a lot of stuff to do on saturday and lost a lot of time in the first day. Really excited to know how this will turn out!

  • Finally motivated myself to finish something! Yeah, it's a really simple game, all graphics are just circles, music was made in an hour just to add some background noise, the gameplay is very basic. But it was still fun to try and make some new things I never tried before!

Overall I'm pretty happy with how the game turned out. Probably could improve UI and add some in-game explanation of controls but that's post LD stuff.

To all Compo participants, hope you had as much fun as I did this LD! And to Jam participants, you have a whole day ahead, if you worked for a long time already, it's probably a good time to relax now.

Good luck with ratings!
