LD 38

I'm in!

I've woken up, got a coffee and started brainstorming ideas. I've a few so far. Good luck everyone, hope you all have fun!

Slaughtered, now for a warm up weekend

Screenshot 2020-04-10 11.56.10.png

Oof, finally made it through the slaughter! Keeping my fingers crossed it's the fun ideas that make it past.

For the next few days I'm going to be practicing with my Phaser/JS setup and reminding myself how to use bosca ceoil + sfxr. If anyone has any recommendations for music and sound tools to have a play with I'd love to hear them, it's one of my weakpoints and I'll be looking to improve in that area.

Definitely going to experiment with setting up a multiplayer server with Phaser 3 as I'd like to challenge myself with that in the Compo. Plus actually taking a look at itch.io and seeing how to put stuff up on there, I'll be making a page with each significant build as I go and just popping it up on Netlify but itch.io seems like something I should have a clue about...

Have a great weekend everyone!

Feed me! (Halfway through)

My ideas for this LD were: - A trio of Silent Running style robots keeping a garden alive in space. - Keeping a network connection alive whilst it's under attack. - Defending yggdrasil during ragnarok, as it gets hurt, the world gets destroyed. - Feeding a mutant plant that makes your only source of food in the post-apocalypse, as you keep it alive, it gets bigger and meaner and deadlier

I went with "Feed me!"

It's coming up to 7am here, about to start on Day 2 and I'm pretty happy with how yesterday went. Most of the core gameplay is in there so I can finish that off and then spend the day refining graphics and UI and my most useless component: sound + music.

Keep going everyone! You can do this!

Finished my 1st Ludum Dare

Well I'm shattered but I'm happy enough  Glad to have uploaded and posted everything!

"In the wasteland of the future, you survive by keeping a mutant plant called Vizbig alive. It demands water, toxic sludge and bones constantly. As it grows it gets harder to keep up with its demands and store the fruit you need."

It really has been a lot of fun and of course I would like to improve loads of things and sort out some bugs that I know exist but I haven't been able to zero in on... I've learnt a lot and had fun. Hope that's the same for everyone else!

Looking forward to checking out everyone's games! Time for a beer!

Warming up today a little

Oh yeah! I'm definitely in for LD48. Looking forward to it! Will probably be using Phaser/JavaScript for the build although I am experimenting with boardgame.io/React today for a little card game. Could be fun to use that or Xstate FSMs for more chilled games. I've also seen so much great stuff being done with Rust gamedev, it is tempting too...

Deep Cover - Half way!

Screenshot 2021-04-24 at 21.33.36.png

Well, that's halfway through for me now. Got a card game engine working and the basic game working, will spend tomorrow doing art, music & tweaks. I'm not sure I've quite pulled it off but hey, been fun so far!

Deep Cover is about a double agent playing both sides in a daft future London, you have to maintain your cover and get deeper into both spy networks.

LD48: Deep Cover - Card Game

Had a lot of fun in LD48 building Deep Cover

You can play online here, only really sized for desktop though I'm afraid

Screenshot 2021-04-26 at 01.43.29.png

It's a game about being a double agent, you build up your cover identities (represented by Tell A Tale cards) and attack/defend your opponents as you try to increase suspicion of each other to the point where they are taken out for being too suspect. You head deeper into the rival spy networks as the game progresses to face harder agents. Full instructions on how to play here and in the game.

I did do a warm up (v different) basic card game a few weeks ago but this is the first card game I've properly built. It has some balancing issues and there's an enormous amount I could do to improve it but I learnt a lot!

Highs included actually making my own tracks in Garageband and recording some dialogue, lows were then having loads of issues with getting the tracks to loop and managing audio sprites. Sadly I had to ditch all of the audio in the end!

Press any key to start

Well it's 7AM-ish here in the UK, so let's goooo  Probably not one of my fave themes but hey ho, it's all good. Have a couple of ideas for this one pre-start (surprise dog party guests, death & taxes) but it's time to start the brainstorming and try to pare down the ideas into something simple and fun  Good luck everyone!

Gonna be a mini one!

Probs only going to have 4ish hours per day for the Compo so we'll have to see what little mini game I can chuck out in that time...

Ludum Dare 58

Keep going!

It's usually around now that I'm starting to flag. You can do this! Take a little break, write some TODOs and triage, grab a snack or drink some water. You've got this, the end is in sight and you will have accomplished something to be proud of!

(I say this as someone doing the Jam this LD so I know I'll be here in 24 hours!)

Done!

Phew! "Midnight Transmission" is done, pretty happy with how the jam went. Lots of ideas didn't pan out of course but managed the time much better than usual.

Good luck to everyone else in these final hours! You can do it! And if not, no big deal
