What went right.
Pretty much nothing actually. I guess the only thing that went right, or the way I intended, was the sound and graphics. Nothing much else other than that.
What went wrong, or how this game came to be.
When I first started I was originally going to do some 2d cinematic type story game on time travel. Only took me about an hour to realize that would take a lot longer than 48 hours. So I sat and thought for a couple hours on what else I could do. I came up with the idea for a real time strategy. I thought about how it was so fun to see hoards of your troops gathering resources and attacking enemy units. I came up with the idea to make each unit last only ten seconds.
I immediately started on the graphics. I went for a simple style for all the units and buildings. I started working on programming the units and buildings. That is where I messed up.
I didn’t necessarily mess up in terms of glitchy code, I messed up in terms of making generic code. I tried so hard and took so much time making it easy to make units and houses from their base that I had four hours left to make the actual game play fit together. I decided that the most fun of the unit types to play by itself would be the villagers. So I pretty much chopped up and stuck together a lot of my code right at the end in order to get what I have now. The up side to all this is that I can now easily add to this game and improve it. So if you like what you see now, look forward to a bunch of improvements on the gamejolt version in the near future.
After I rate a bunch more games I’m gonna make a list of my favorites. I’ve been havin a ton of fun playing all these games so far.
