LD 38

I'm in!

Maybe I'm a bit too late but I finally joined LD38!

Ths is my very first attempt at Ludum Dare, my very first attempt at making games and I'm not sure I would have enough time to do anything... But how can I know if I don't even try?

I got an idea for the theme and then I found on Twitter someone had a similar idea, although I don't know if the gameplay will be similar, so I'll stick with it and do my best to beat him! :D

I already spent too much time coding nothing, so I better go back to the jam.

Good luck, everybody!

Having a break

Maybe after 6 hours it is too bad to have just this few elements, but now I have some ants leaving their nest.

Having a break for the dinner, but I'm confident I could do some great progress this evening.

Some mechanics done

Some of the mechanics are done, I hoped I'd progress more and have all the mechanics set before the end of my first day, but, hey again, for my first Ludum Dare and my first game maybe it was better than expected.

At least now I can make the ants walk in line, they almost look like real ants (obviously not)!

I'm getting more and more confident with Phaser JS and this was maybe the most important reason why I joined LD: getting to know better the tools I want to use.

So I call it a success so far!

Time to go to bed and sleep well. Tomorrow I'll have a long walk with my wife and my dogs, then keep coding in the afternoon.

P.S. I noticed that the more things I do the more productive I am, I think that if I was coding all day long I would have done much less than what I actually accomplished

Will I finish my game?

I don't know if I'll succeed in finishing my game. At least I have ants going out from the nest, gathering the food, going back home and a winning condition if you gathered enough food within the given time.

This is already a huge accomplishment for me, but these are still missing:

  • a start menu
  • at least one soundtrack
  • a lose condition
  • the first tutorial level
  • some levels or some random level generation
  • itch.io submission

I don't know if I will be able to post the game to itch.io, if I don't have enough time I'll stick with the good ol' GitHub pages without any graphic apart from the game canvas.

P.S. seems like "I don't know" is my personal LD theme

I finally finished my submission!

You can see it here:

It's more a gameplay concept than an actual game...
I didn't have time to make a soundtrack, a start screen and neither some level design...

I don't think it'll be super fun to play, but this is my first game ever and I some ideas about it that maybe I could elaborate after the Ludum Dare.

I'll write all my impressions in the post-mortem, but now it's almost 2 AM so it's definitely time to sleep...

LD 39

I'm in!

This is my second Ludum Dare, and I had an idea for a game since the last LD.

Maybe I can force things just a bit and make my idea fit the theme... Is it cheating?

Good luck everyone!

I'm so slow in doing art...

It definitely took ages to do this spritesheet of me coding a game, but I promise it's related to the game itself.

Can you relate to this gif?

Bedtime

Some of the mechanics are in place, for the first day of the jam I'd say I'm quite satisfied!
Maybe I'll get to finish in time for the Compo this year! :fingers_crossed:

Whether it'll be fun to play is a totally different story, though...

Well, it's time for me and for my dev avatar companion to go get some sleep.

Good night, or good jamming, everyone. See you tomorrow!

No Compo :(

I really wanted to finish my game in time for the Compo, but it seems like I'll do not...

At least I've seen other guys among you that will try the Jam instead of the Compo, so if some of you is reading I KNOW THAT FEEL BRO!

Tomorrow will be a very busy day in my AFK life, so I hope I'll get to finish the game at all...

Good night everyone!

Dare to Ludum

Aaaaaaand at least I managed to publish the game before the deadline!

Quite the irony if I couldn't publish it, given the theme of my game...

Curious? Play it here and let me know what you think!

LD 41

I'm in! Maybe a bit late...

This weekend I got something to do but in some ways I found some time to join Ludum Dare!

I started working on my game not more than 2 hours ago, I guess I can't make it for the Compo.

I'll try to match the theme with a text based endless runner game, so I can take advantage of different pros:

  1. since it is very late (but I use it as an excuse for my lack of artistic skills) I'm not forced to draw any asset
  2. speed of development: open Visual Studio Code and you're good to go
  3. I'm a front end developer, so HTML and Javascript is my daily food
  4. the game will be easily sharable and playable
  5. with a bit of an effort I could do it mobile friendly

This is what I got at the moment:

It seems a bit boring so far, maybe I'll put some zombies in it. I know it's not the most original of the ideas, but, come on, we're here to play, ain't we?

Good luck everyone!

Type Away - a fast paced text based endless runner... with zombies

I finally published my entry for the Jam!

type-away.gif

I kept the scope very small since I had less than 24 hours to work on it and I can say I'm quite stisfied with how I managed it.

I hope you'll enjoy it and please tell me what you think, even if it's just bad impressions!

You can play it here

Type Away - results

Woah! I didn't expect to be in the first page of the games for a category (Theme)!

Thanks to everyone that rated my game!

If you are curious and you didn't play it yet here is Type Away: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/type-away-a-fast-paced-text-based-endless-runner-with-zombies

Let me know what you think about it, I'm seriously thinking about making a post jam version.

See you next LD
