MiniBlocks

Hello, first time in Ludum Dare! Decided to challenge myself to make a complete game, since I abandoned most of my earlier experiments..

I’m using what I’m most familiar with:  XNA 4, Audacity, SFXR, Cubase, Paintbrush and Gimp. I’m terrible with graphics, luckily the theme was a good fit for me.  First thing I worked on was some quick music to make things not so boring. The prototype is already up and running nicely, now I’m struggling to get interesting level design. It will probably feature from 15 to 20 levels. So far I’m happy with the result!

Minimal Blocks

Since I can’t do art and my programming is computer 101, in my first LD I went for a simple but very addictive and fun game. Discover the rules by trial and error and master the challenges. Soundtrack is sort of hypnotic also :). Written in XNA, hope this don’t turn out people from the game.

It’s done: Minimal Blocks!

So, it was an immense challenge for me, since my experience with programming and game making is limited (I’m a musician), but I managed it :). There’s 13 levels on it, and a simple original soundtrack. Here’s a video:

Looking forward to rate games and see my ratings!

Minimal Blocks – Post-Compo version

Reviews of my game were mostly favorable, but everyone complained that the game was too hard. Jellycakes played it on his LiveStream and after 200 deaths couldn’t finish it (I can in about 10 though 😀 ).

In the comments, the main complaint was that the player doesn’t move while standing on moving platforms, so I decided to upload a post-compo version with this changed, and also eliminated the running button (it now runs by default), which should make the game much easier. Other than that, everything is the same.

If you haven’t played my game, it’s a top-down platformer centered about jumping and interaction with different blocks, here’s a video of it:
