Ludum Dare 48

henlo

this is my first time trying ludum dare after knowing about it for years! I have a bit of coding experience but I started unity literally four days ago. tl;dr I'm a n00bie wanting to push my limits, I'm sure I'll have some fun while doing it. for the grafix I'll be using photoshop and i'll make the music in FL studio.

mariana's trench

i immediately thought about a deep ocean setting (tho i'm seeing it's a pretty popular idea regarding the theme). here's some art.1.png2.png

last homework of the day

went out with some friends, drank some beers and ate pizza. after an energy drink I'm back at home and I'll make some oceanic music, hopefully I'll implement some other gameplay features too. tomorrow I'll make all the different scenes and draw all the rest of the art (hoping i'll be on schedule).

Last Decisions

SOOO basically. I realized I don't have as much time and unity skill to do what I had in mind completely, so for now I'll be happy with 4 levels and some simple chore mechanics. It's okay, I'm still happy I'll be able to finish it. Tomorrow I'll fix all the bugs and make it finished; it will be a busy day though so I won't have much time. I'm kind of exhausted but it's dope!

henlo wassup play my game

My first game jam everr!! I managed to finish in time. Actually I could have submitted for compo but my programming skills pushed me back a bit. It's about a marine researcher in the Mariana's Trench. Hope you like it!

HTML5 Added

After a bit of tweaking I managed to add an HTML port to my game so that it's playable in the browser (hoping it runs well?). Now it's time to get away from the screen for a bit.

The Aftermath

start updated.png

SO overall here's a bunch of things I've learnt after this first LD: * Keep the workplace clean and organized! Near the end I ended up having so much stuff in so many different folders that it was making me anxious. Keep the sprites, music, code, scenes all in specific places. I am a messy person usually, but here it's important for real. * Animations are much more difficult to do than I thought. They take a looot of time and it's hard to make them look natural. I just did the movement of my character but I wanted to animate everything. Also maybe photoshop is not the best of programs for this, I'll try something made specifically for pixel art in the future. * I should comment my own code to always know what I'm doing. The code should always be clear and smart. * Strive for a complete game. I am happy with what I did because it's finished and even if it's short it follows a logic.

I am really enjoying playing the games that other people have made. If you want to check out mine, here's a link! I'd really appreciate it! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/marianas-trench

I AM IN

Lessgo!! Okay so this time around I will be kind of busy in the jam days, between birthdays and university and travelling a bit. So I probably won't have time to make a really complex game but it's okay im super PUMPED about doing this for the second time!!! The themes are very promising, I'll have to keep in mind that it's a small project and all will go well.

little something

soooo today I woke up at like 12 and had no idea that people already started; I was convinced it would start tonighttt so it was pretty funny :^) This time around I'll make something conceptually really simple, more story driven. I set up the mechanics today and I am writing stuff down right now; tomorrow I hope to get it to a playable state and almost finished.2021-10-02 21-38-15(1).gif

Yeah. I've been busy with uni and birthdays and all that loser social stuff and now I can FINALLY play something! If you want me to play your game and leave you a comment then reply to this post and I'll get around to it eventually. Also, if you want to play my textual psychological adventure it would mean a lot to me:

WOW!!

I did not expect to get these scores. AT ALL. I'm super happy because the two main focal parts of the game (mood and innovation) were well received. Also just look at that overall score, SUPER DEVILISH!!! moodinnovation.png

Thanks to everyone that played my game and enjoyed it, I want to keep on pushing and make interesting stuff <3 Next LD will be special so I'm already hyped for that as well!

First day is over!

yeah so i've been silent about the game because I've been nonstop working on it (AND I'VE ACCOMPLISHED SO LITTLE OH MY GOD). for the first time though i feel like the ideas are very many, even if i don't like the theme particularly. also i'm joining with a couple of friends so it's much more stimulating.

a little something

didn't make that much progress on the first day. i'm counting on finishing all the graphical elements asap and then focusing on the gameplay aspect. i came up with the end of a story yesterday before falling asleep so that's good! Nuovo video.gif

barely finished exporting

had trouble with godot 4.0 for html5 web exporting :/ apparently it's weird. not cool game is finished, i am happy, now it's time to sleeeep
