I’m In

Though i might have a last minute entry into this, see how it goes this time.

Although its 23:52 here in the UK and i have just returned from several drinking establishments.

To top it off i’m currently sporting the latest in ad-hoc head-wear.

Yet again, duct tape proves itself an invaluable tool when you just need something to stay still.

anyway.

I’m in again

I’ll be rocking:

Code: Unity(C#) + EX2D(if 2d)

Graphics: PyxelEdit or GraphicsGale or Paint.Net or Spriter Beta (haven’t decided yet)

Sound:  BFXR + (PXTone or iNudge)

Listening To: Dubstep or Brown Noise

Drinking: Whisky

Aiming for the “Ballmer Peak”

Lets do this.

In again, hopefully I’ll finish something this time.

Using:
Unity
Photoshop/Pyxel
sfxr/bfxr

………..Soon

PyxelEdit Rocks

I’ve been practising for the competition, as my art skills are well…non-existent.
I’m at my best when working in geometric shapes of a singe colour.

Thought i’d try copying some photo’s into pixels, see if I could level up to an acceptable standard, I’m surprised its not more atrocious.

Of course most of it is due to PyxelEdit being great.

Steampunk mask:

Here’s the original

And a tiny pixely version

Ps. Is it just me or it it easier to pixely things with a mouse rather than a tablet?

I actually prefer doing it with a tablet rather than with a mouse for some reason.

Nice idea! I may just have to do that now… I’ve been meaning to do an art warmup.

Why is much more interesting to be terrible at something?

I’ve started my project and i’m using unity…teh problem is that the last time i used unity was for the last time I did an LD so its been a while.

so I thought, “it’l be okay”, “Just like riding a bike”

..Pretty much sums up my bike riding experience so far.

but this is the most fun I’ve had programming for a really long time, i have a programming day job, and while it’s fulfilling it feels less enjoyable than abject failure has today.

Anyone else ?

Yes, I haven’t touched unity3D since the last ludum, and I’m having trouble with it, but fun at the same time.

Going smoothly..now all I need is the gameplay

Just finished up on my proof of concept tech demo thingy(mostly so I could reacquaint myself with unity’s component structure) – portfolio page is here or direct webplayer link is here.

So I’ve proven that I’m not entirely incompetent as far as brightly coloured simple physics are concerned. Now comes the first of what I’m sure are going to be many hard bits, the game-play.

I’m just going over all my initial idea’s to try and make a simple coherent starting point for coding, does anyone know of any good articles about getting your ideas together into a simple design doc?

also still can’t decide between Accession or Astromancer for the name …hmmm

Edit: forgot to add a pic

I’m in again

Maybe this time I’ll actually finish something….maybe.

haven’t quite decided what I’m using yet.

Either:

Love2d + Zoetrope

or

Unity 4

+

Pyxel edit / illustrator

Bfxr + (possibly January)

edit:

just got permission from Disasterpeace to use January for the music, you should check it out.

Warm up time.

Warm up weekend is nearly here.

I’m warming up with something tiny that I can use to refine my “crafting” code library before the main event.

All themes could have crafting …..except, I suppose…”No Crafting”

…If anyone sees this in the slaughter..VOTE SLAUGHTER

Incidentally,  I’m also using this warmup to see if I can survive a weekend at my new standing desk.

I will post desk photo’s at some point so you can see my “ghetto standing desk of terrible construction quality +1″…not that , I suspect, you care.

edit: seriously, how is “som” not picked up by a spellchecker

Easy stand up desk instructions

I posted previously about my new stand up deskamajig and,  in an entirely un-helpful fashion, forgot to include the instructions i used to make it.

Here they are

I’m from the UK, and the tables/shelf they used in the guide were unavailable for delivery so I went with 2 LACK tables and a LACK shelf and some silver brackets i forget the name of.

in total it came to £42 delivered.

Pics in the previous post here

Possibly In

Realised I need to really know the tools before i can do something like this.

So I’m going to spend all the time between now and the MiniLD going over them.

If  I’m comfortable enough with them I might be in.

Weighted path’s and purple dots.

I have a day job, apparently its also a night job now so I’ve only had about a day and a half on this so far.

Still confident i can get something done before deadline though.

Implemented the weighted pathfinding system and the single/multi-selection…..so that’s nice.

Originally I was planning to use rain{indie} to do the path finding but I was not at all familiar with the library and it turned out to be easier to just implement weighted a* myself.

path Despite how sparse it looks I’ve actually got quite a bit of the code done, i just need to hook it up to the graphics now.

We shall see.

Possibly

Hello,

Not sure if i’m in this time.

So much day-job work to do, not nearly enough time.

If i can get through it all i may be in again.

Perhaps i might even fifnish this time…who knows

Goals

Hey

Ive got a quick question about an idea someone was trying to explain to me.

If you could put down a goal, say for example “complete an LD game” with a money amount that you would forfeit if you didn’t complete the goal, would you?

As an example if I put down £50 and then completed my entry, I get the money back. If I don’t finish, the money goes to a charity or something.

Would this motivate you to complete your entry and would you pay to do this.

Any feedback is appreciated

I would not do this. I am going to finish an LD weather or not there is a reward. Scaring me into making games doesn’t sound pleasant. The ‘goal’ sounds more like a threat and would make me have less fun and be more on edge.
