LD26

My 1st LD48

This will be my first Ludum dare, and my first game jam for that matter. Looking forward to it!

Language: Lua

Platform/Framework: Moai (https://github.com/my-digital-decay/moai-dev)

Art: Gimp / Pixelmator, Blender

Sound: cfxr

…..

And what ever else is needed as I go. :)

I’m using this as an opportunity to finally evaluate Moai as a platform, and to get some experience with Lua. Considering both are somewhat unfamiliar to me we’ll see how far I get with the game. Should be fun though.

Nice to see more people using MOAI. Good work!

Struggling with Moai

So far I’ve just been struggling with getting Moai to do what I want. Trying to learn as fast as I can and attempting to do everything in Lua without writing any C/C++ code. I don’t currently have my own host written for Moai, so I’m just using the out-of-box GlutHost. Adding any C/C++ would require too much engine work at this point and I’d never get a game made in time. Very slow going so far. I have a pretty good idea what I want to do just need to get up to speed with toolset to make it do what I want. Pics when I have something worth showing.

Use corona, it’s ultra fast (what I am using)

Not interested in Corona because it isn’t open source. I’m considering using Moai for an indie game project and I’m using this as an opportunity to evaluate it.

22 hours left

Finally got shape drawing and morphing working they way I envisioned. Took way longer than I would have liked, mostly due to being unfamilier with both Lua and Moai. Next I’ll be adding player input and a basic level. Possibly hook up some Box2D physics as well, time permitting.

Trying to integrate Box2D support, but having some issues linking the physics body to the prop object. I’m aiming to have basic player movement and a very basic level finished in time.

Complete

Well my entry into ld26 is complete, although it never really turned into a game. I spent way too much time getting line rendering to work they way I wanted in MOAI, which left me very little time to actually add gameplay. I did manage to finish the shape morphing behavior for the player however. It was a good learning experience.

LD27

LD27 Jam

I will be participating in the LD27 Jam this time around with some other folks.

Language: C++, Lua

Tools: To be determined

Anxiously awaiting the reveal of the theme.
