I'm in!
I am hoping for either Risky Powerups, Color changes everything, or you are the only enemy.
Also I'll be using Unity, Aseprite, Audacity, and maybe Processing 3 and Gimp.

Here is my submission: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/coin-defender
Immediately after completing it, I realized this game would work extremly well with touch controlls. Currently I am working on fixing some bugs and making it compatible with tablet. Later on, it will probably go on the app store/google play!
Meanwhile, please rate it and give me feedback so that I can make it as good as possible when I upload it. Thanks!

Hello! A few days ago, I though of a cool concept for an image filter that would make a really cool image effect. Here is what it looks like:

Top img: source, bottom: processed
This image effect is really simple.
Step 1) grayscale the image Step 2) Slightly blur it Step 3) Set each pixel's value to the range of the values of nearby pixels Step 4) pixelate the image; take the min value from your range Step 5) "decolor" the img(please tell me if you want more details on this step Step 6) tint it to be slightly brownish-red
Of course, it doesn't work well on all images...

But sometimes it looks amazing
(sorry for the tooltip on the image)

If you want to see the source code, please tell me in the comments.
I think that this effect will make a game have a very unique look(well, not anymore now that I revelead how it works)
Note: this was NOT done in photoshop/gimp. I made a custom processing 3 script to achieve this effect.

Hello! I am currently working on a game called free the frogs, and I want to release it to steam. However, I have no audience on any social media, no marketing budget, and basically nothing at all. How should I market my game? Thanks!
Hello humans.
When is the theme slaughter round? Doesn't it start 14 days before ludum dare?
Thanks!
Well, I have now gone through a little less than half of all the themes, and it's not looking good...

My current kept : slaughtered themes is currently 1:88. And after seeing thousands of themes, I now have a set of filters which I check every theme against to see if I should spare it or slaughter it.
This filter basically weeds out all the themes created to troll the slaughterers(does that count as a word?). It eliminates things like "FlOaTiNg IsLaNdS", "nuzloke"(whatever that is), and "Mushrooms and ducks do it again". This one is pretty simple and obvious.
This filter can be broken up into 3 smaller filters:
One of the intresting things when playing other submissions is seeing how the same theme is interpreted diffrently. I don't want to play 20 platformers or 20 puzzle games. One good rule of thumb I heard is this: "Can you think of a platformer, a puzzle game, an FPS and a text adventure that fit this theme?".
Example of a bad theme: If you jump you die
Some "Styles" of games are: Sci-fi, Midieval, etc. A theme like "Weird Sci-fi" limits the possible styles, and reduces overall game diversity.
Realistically, there are 2 types of games*; 2D and 3D. Which game you make is mostly a matter of personal preference. Therefore, the theme shouldn't force LD participants to use one or the other.
The official purpose of the theme is to help people overcome the "Blank Page" challenge. Themes that are too vague undermine this purpose, which is why "You start with nothing" fall flat.
After these filters, the themes you keep or kill is a matter of preference and judgement. A good example of this are the many COVID-19 themes. Most people don't like these themes and automatically downvote them.
I hope this guide will help you think of better themes and help you in your slaughtering :D

Kept : Killed = 1:62
Hello humanity. I am starting work on an 8-bit music making tool inspired by bosca coeil. My design goals are that it will be easy to use(like bosca), that it will use java instead of flash(unlike bosca), and that it will make sounds that are pleasant to hear(unlike bosca). I will release this tool for free hopefully before the jam. If you are intrested please let me know and tell me what kind of features you would like to see : D
Also, any suggestions for the name are highly appriciated
I created a basic UI system with a navigation bar, an inspector and the main "body". Scales nicely and looks pretty modern. Tomorrow I want to implement the MIDI editor as a "UI Page"(a tab in the navigation bar). Any feedback or ideas are highly appriciated.

GameMaker - Good for beginners, but annoys Mac & Linux people
Unity - Powerful & Easy to use
Unreal - Good for pros, brags about it's graphics in comparison to unity
Scratch - Just no
hello people
I am currently working on the MIDI editor for my music making app. Here are some screenshots:
When you have no patterns

1 Pattern

3 diffrent patterns(pattern 2 is blank so there is no preview)

Any suggestions to improve the UI, feature requests or ideas for the name will be appriciated.
I will hopefully release this app for free before the jam so you can try it out. Now I'll start working on the sequencer.
bye
Finally, after finishing the MIDI Editor & Sequencer, I have made a very important feature; Instruments! Here is some test footage:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1zWc_jJBcc
As you can see, the fully custom envelopes will allow for a lot of customization although I will probably add some presets. Also, I will add more things to the left menu panel(like filters, panning, arpegiation maybe?). The instrument system is currently not connected to the midi system, so I will need to work on that. Any suggestions, feedback, ideas(especially for a name) are highly appriciated.
Once again, I will finish and release this app before the jam, so that I and others can use it :D
Hello everyone. I was about to create the github repo for the 8 bit music app I've been making, when I realized that I needed to name the repo. This means that the time is now to pick a good name. However, I can't think of a good name. Please help.
Hello everyone. After working a lot on the 8bit music app(which I decided to call tonnoform), it's available as a beta! Here's the github link: https://github.com/Nikos1001/Tonnoform
Please try it out. I compiled it for Mac and Windows. Here are the app's controlls:
+: create new pattern
-: delete pattern
UP / DOWN: arrow keys: scroll pattern up/down
W / S: scroll pattern list up/down
click in pattern editor: create new note
drag note in pattern editor: extend / unextend note
right click note in pattern editor: delete note
click in sequencer: place selected pattern
right click on pattern in sequencer: remove pattern
click on instrument name in sequencer: switch instruments
+: create new instrument
-: delete instrument
W / S: scroll instrument list up/down
drag rectangles in the middle: edit instrument envelope
I have added a very important feature to make tonnoform a real app: saving & loading projects. Since I hate, hate, HATE doing saving/loading things, I decided to do it as soon as possible. Projects are saved to the custom .tnfproj file format.
Once again, the github repo is https://github.com/Nikos1001/Tonnoform . It is currently compiled for windows and mac, and you can edit the code using Processing 3. I hope you give it a try. Any feature ideas, bugs, or other feedback is highly appriciated.
One more thing: in version beta1.2, I added audio export
Hello everyone. Today I added some really useful features. First of all, I added a Noise waveform, making percussion possible. However, it currently sounds terrible. I will definetly try to improve it. I also added instrument bundles. Instrument bundles are files that contain instruments. You can then load them into a project to use the instruments.
Please try the app. Here is the github repo: https://github.com/Nikos1001/Tonnoform . Any suggestions, feedback or bugs are highly appriciated.
