I will be participating in Ludum Dare #23.

It is my first Ludum Dare.

I will be using Game Maker Lite and its drawing program.

As far as I know Game Maker Lite has lots of limitations . Even Game Maker Pro ( used it once ) has no sound editor . Often used : sfxr . Just an tip .

Got started with my adventure!

Here is my entry as it is now. I composed my own music for it!

This little robot is here to save the planet Pending by activating the crystals on the tiny floating islands!

Got some levels… and a major bug.

I managed to build some nice levels.

The problem is that there are 2 block types that get affected by buttons.

Only one of them actually gets affected.

It’s strange because I used the exact same code for both.

I also got a story!

Best of luck to everyone!

Concerning your bug…did you just copy and paste the code for the two buttons and then change the code in one and not the other? Or are they both using the same method so they are using exactly the same code? Have you tried using some logging statements for the buttons to make sure that the game knows that the buttons are being pressed?

End of Day 1.

It’s about midnight where I live, so here are two screenshots before I go to sleep.

My game is basically a puzzle platformer that uses only 3 elements:

Platforms, Buttons, and Traps

It has a nice “stop the apocalypse” story, too.

Good luck and good night!

PS. You may notice it’s made with Gamemaker.

That’s just because I haven’t learned anything else well enough to use it.

PPS. The title as of now is The Lost Isles.

PPPS. I also composed a short piece of music specifically for this game. I’ll post it later.

Finished!

I just submitted my puzzle platform game The Lost Isles.

It’s probably one of the better games I’ve created.

It was really fun making this game.

However, next time I will not use Game Maker.

It caused me to spend hours fixing something that wouldn’t have existed if I used something else.

I wish you all good luck.

I’m in for my 2nd Ludum Dare!

I will be a part of Ludum Dare 25.

I enjoyed my first Ludum Dare earlier this year.

I will(most likely) be using:

Engine-Stencyl

Graphics-GIMP

Music-MuseScore

Sound Effects-Sound Recorder+Microphone

Good luck,

Good Luck! I’ll be using stencyl too!

End of the First Night

Well, I laid down some ideas, made some sound effects, drew some sprites and got a little bit of the game working.

I really don’t have much to show for it at this point.

My take on “You are the Villain” is really “You are the Starter of Unprovoked Interplanetary War”.

It’s going to be scrolling shooter where you blow stuff up.

There will be lasers, turrets, antimatter, and all that good stuf.

Anyways, I’m done for the day.

Bye for now,

Nilmrots

Progress at Last!

After numerous restarts and a variety of annoying errors, I finally have something which runs quite nicely.

Here are some decoration tiles to be put on the background.

Tiles Report

Here is a screenshot of some gameplay.

Gameplay Report

It’s interesting, but what you can’t tell from the screenshot is that I can’t move the spaceship.

See you in a while,

Nilmrots

I messed everything up. Restarting.

Well, I just did something that I was unsure of to my game code.

Now, it’s irreparably broken.

I have no idea what even caused it.

I screwed up something with the camera and enemy death in Stencyl.

I think I’m going to restart in the morning.

A whole new design with the same art and sound.

Less than 1 day…

Good luck to all,

Nilmrots

Why didn’t you use revision control?

Try fixing it again in the morning with a fresh mind. Maybe just for 30 minutes (set an alarm). Restarting is not a good idea imho :)

Not Going Too Well

My game is going pretty badly.

I hope to get some sort of working progress in the next few hours.

Currently all I have is a ball avoids other balls and tries not to run into walls.

I guess it’s not that bad of a game mechanic.

Hopefully it will work okay by submission time.

It doesn’t need to be a super-complex game! Even simple mechanics can be addictively awesome!

Finished!

Though I doubted it earlier, I am done with a few hours to spare.

It was a fun if somewhat stressful experience.

Good luck,

Participating

I’m in for my third Ludum Dare.

Engine: GameMaker 8

Art: GIMP/GameMaker’s built-in editor

Music: MuseScore

Sound: SFXR

Best of luck to all participating.

An idea

A puzzle maze game where a person has had their orderly and minimalist world wrecked by chaotic and complex villains.

They must collect a series of treasures which will make the game more and more minimalistic(definitely graphically, not sure about mechanically).

Therefore each level is gradually more and more minimalistic until you collect the final treasure and return your land to its pure and minimalist state.

Now to get working on the game mechanics and assets.

Something to show for it

Progress has been made.

I have a smiley face that moves around and bumps into walls.

I also have a title screen.

This is going to be a strange game indeed.

Progress1

Progress2

End of the Day

25 hours into this and doing fine.

I have most of the main mechanics and art.

Next on the to do list are sound and level design, followed by making a tutorial or instruction manual.

Here are some screenshots.

An early level in the game:

A later level in the game:

Progress4

Best of luck to you all.

Actually Not Doing So Bad

Today I…

-wrapped up all the art.

-implemented all the mechanics.

-created all the sounds.

-wrote all the music.

I need to…

-design all the levels.

-implement all the music and sound.

-write a tutorial.

Now it’s time to keep working on that.

Hope you all produce interesting games.

Good luck.

I’m IN, if somewhat late

I didn’t realize that Ludum Dare was this weekend until just now.

I’m kind of busy, but I’ll see if I can throw something together.

Engine: Game Maker 8

Graphics: GIMP

Music: MuseScore

Sound Effects: SFXR

The theme is a bit weird, but I think I can work with it.

Anyways, good luck to all the participants!

End of First Night

I’m done for today.

I made some good progress.

My idea is a 2D shooter with time as a collectible resource.

You start with 10 seconds until the game ends, and you must kill enemies to gain more time.

Killing enemies also gains you points and possibly power-ups.

It’s not screenshot-ready yet, but it will be tomorrow.

Good night and good luck!

A game in which you are chased are by red circles

In my  game, you are a blue circle with eyes that fights circles with eyes of other colors.

You shoot at them, and they drop clocks(extra time), gems(points), and health packs.

Sometimes, they move fast, or split into more circles, or shoot back at you.

The goal of the game is to survive as long as possible and score as many points as possible.
