Ludum Dare 45

Obligatory "I'm (probably) in" post

Normally I'm a game engine developer but might give something different a try, might even give my vulkan game engine a whirl. Looking forward to it! This is my third game jam but the first for 2 or so years (sadly my old account and entries were lost). Probably going for the compo to fit this into the weekend.

Best of luck to everyone, can't wait to see some excellent creations.

Final Tool Choices

Ludum dare starts in a day! So I spose it's time to select my weapons of choice this time around.

As per tradition I'll be sticking to 2D, I've grown very fond of LibGDX (My own engine isn't quite ready yet sadly, you can find it here https://github.com/NotNoteworthy/CubicBase).

Tools:

  • LibGDX
  • GIMP for "art"
  • LMMS for "music"

and, most importantly:

  • Oasis for motivation

I have an idea!

Seeing as it's now 23:30 here I'll leave the actual programming to tomorrow, but I'm very happy with my idea. Let's just say that I take the whole "starting with nothing" a little too literally...

Time to start

It's now a less absurd time of night, time to get going on the idea I have, should be fun.

Wishy Washy Metaphysical Beings

Game coming along okay, think I've got the first level down. The plan is to have the content finished on day 1 so I can spend all day tomorrow refining stuff.

Final level

About to start the 3rd and final level (after a break). As of current everything is very rough so will spent time today fixing that. Here's my todo list:

  • Proper level transitions
  • Less programmery programmer art
  • Some form of soundtrack
  • Profit

The Idea

I've been teasing it for a bit but here's my idea for this time round's entry, "Wishy washy Metaphysical Entities".

Plot

Your play a character who doesn't speak an awful amount, you awaken one morning to find that you managed to get into the void (good for you) and the only way to return to the real work is to generate components of a house which also managed to get into the void.

Gameplay

Think standard maze game but without an awful lot of visual aids, one level your rely on floor mould to get around and generate the floors before entering the dreaded pendulum room.

Polishing

So the entry is very short (3 levels) but hey, I'd rather have time to make sure everything functions. Currently in the process of replacing all the placeholder sprites with better looking placeholder sprites. Also rewrote Bob McEverywhere's dialogue

Finished... In good time

I've heard of over-scoping but maybe I underscoped.

I've got the game done and ready for uploading, will be up tomorrow some time.
