Ludum Dare 55

"Burn With Me" will be heading to Steam!

Maybe it wasn't the most polished experience, but both us and players really liked our spin on a deckbuilder - with minmaxing points and strategically burning your deck. So, we decided to polish the experience, add a little twist and head to Steam!

Proper announcement and page launch will probably happen after LD ends, but for now, small sneak peek into Steam changes: - Proper tutorial (imho the biggest problem righ now is lack of clarity in rules) - Finish animations/SFX - Balance some cards, add new ones - More variety/events/modificators to spice up the trip to Satan - And some big visual/gameplay change that we want to keep a secret for now (it is too powerful to be released too early)

Once again, thank you so much for our support! I don't know how good we'll score in this gamejam, but it already sparkled a joy of finishing a proper game — and it's all that matters to us.

If you are up to some quirky deckbuilder, you can play Burn With Me here (I suggest itchio build): https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/burn-with-me

Burn With Me: Meet the team!

Did not have enough time for many things during this jam, and credits was one of them.

So, I took my time and created proper credits in line with the game's style!

Will most likely add it to the post-jam release, still not sure if this silliness is suitable for the rest of the game...

Small "Burn With Me" postmortem

Will try to keep short. As all of you, I have some reasons and targets in mind when participating in gamejams.

Competition. Dopamine. Coming up with some cool prototypes for future projects (and I think we'll follow this path with our current game).

But for me, one of the main targets is to go a bit outside of comfort zone: try something new, something more ambitious that I am comfortable with. Something that you look at day 1 and say "how the hell I'm gonna do this?", and after day 3 you say "...well, that was something"

This makes you feel either hopeless if you fail, or totally powerful if you manage to finish the project. But in any case, you feel that you are stronger than you were 3 days ago.

This time, I decided to do a deckbuilder. Never done anything like that, neve done any "balancing numbers in excel sheet" thing, and haven't even though about designing non-primitive systems.

I almost overscoped, I almost quit this LD on day 1 from frustration, not knowing if I can finish this in time and do a good job at designing a card game at all...

But oh boy am I happy that I didn't.

Now I know: I can. And I saw that the rest of the team also could, and delivered. And this is the most important aspect of gamejams.

Thank you all! Keep jamming, keep growing, and keep dreaming! :fist:

Burn With Me: happy with results... How about a Steam release?

Being in top 1-2% in main categories is nice! And even more so doing it consistently over the last couple of LDs. And especially because it was my first time creating a deckbuilder and balancing complex systems.

The podium will need to wait a little bit longer, but this time, I got something even more precious: nice basis for full Steam release!

What we are currently cooking:

  • A secret companion to guide you through the mysteries (and to introduce new ones)
  • Polished graphics, animations and sounds
  • New cards for new strategies
  • Branching paths and mini-bosses
  • New game modes
  • Ways to bend fate in your favor (at a cost)
  • A dark story to reveal

Hope some of you will be waiting for the full release, because I can promise you, it will be much wilder and cooler than current version 😉

Ludum Dare 56

Robot Detour, full version of my LD53 game, is out!

Ludum Dare 53 was a first gamejam for me and my "studio" (which is basically me and my wife). During it we've made a game DETOUR which surprisingly got 8th place in Innovation and 25th in Overall, so we decided to make a full game out of it!

So, after 1.5 years, x10 length of the game, x10 mechanics, x100 fun and x1000 polish, we finally released full version: Robot Detour!

You can buy the game on Steam or itchio, or play the demo first. Itchio even has the web version of the demo :)

I hope it will be as fun to play as it was fun making it ❤️

Ludum Dare 59

Thank you, Ludum Dare.

Hello, everyone! How's life?

This is third time my team and me participate in Ludum Dare, and I wanted to make a post about my small story with Ludum Dare. Because funnily enough, previous two times I made a game with my team at LD, it ended up getting a full release!

First time it was Ludum Dare 53 (theme: "Delivery"), when whe created our first ever jam game Detour. After the gamejam we worked for 1.5 years and made a full game, Robot Detour! Which released on Steam in 2024, and even on consoles recently.

Afterwards, I made a small compo game Feng Shui Struggles for LD 44. It was fun, but making a game together with team turned out to be 10 times more interesting!

Second time we made here a game together was Ludum Dare 55 (theme: "Summoning"), on which we made a demonic deckbuilder Burn With Me! We didn't release the full version yet, but are very actively working on the game!

And it's not like we try to make a full release out of every jam game: we created 10+ gamejam prototypes already. I suppose Ludum Dare is just that special

So, in a way, I owe Ludum Dare my indie gamedev career. Even though our time together was brief, I will remember this jam forever. And will try to participate as much as I can now!

This year stars finally aligned, and we had some free time around LD. We decided to make a small narrative atmospheric game, without any intent to make a full release out if it. It turned out a bit harder than we wanted, but that's just how jams work sometimes.

If you fancy trying it out, remember you can skip levels via pause menu

Nest, this is Pilgrim

Have fun everyone, hopefully everyone got out of this gamejam what they wanted already

Results already?!

Dropped just like that?

I'm happy with the results, but this was a bit anticlimactic haha
