I think I’m in

Hey everyone out there!

My name is Christian Schäl and I like to code games. I’ve been visiting, playing and commenting Ludum dare since last year, but never participated in one. Most common reasons: Not enough time, was on vacation, school pressure,  and also once a lack of motivation and ideas.

But not now! I am really looking forward to participate in this Ludum Dare.

Something about me? Oh yeah:

I am a 15 year old boy from Germany and started programming games in the age of nine or ten. My first steps started in batch and VB Script, but after some time I started working with Visual Basic. I felt awesome when I finished my first “real” game in VB called “Earth Invaders”. Like space invaders. Some levels, bosses and… a game.

With the age of 13 I realized VB is not the best language for making games. I gave C++ and, after some failed attempts, Java a chance. I was terrible. But I never gave up (sounds like in a movie right? (; ) and with the age of 14 1/2 I finally finished a game written in Java.

Since then I was getting better and better in making games.

So, that was my part. Now tell me a bit of you. Oh right…

I hope that you see my game in the future. (When you do, you might give it a try.)

Finished my entry!

Hey,

I just finished my first entry (wich you can play here). Sadly, I had not much time and only worked for about 5 hours.

So, my opinion to the Ludum Dare… It was awesome! Learned much, watched some livestreams by some guys and I finished a game (more or less), even if my entry is bad and i should feel bad.

Well, what went right (The shorter thing first):

* Sound effects. I never really used them before, but now I can’t life without them.

* The theme. At first, I tought it was a bad theme, ’cause Ludum Dare’s are acutally always minimalistic due short time, but it went better than expected.

What went wrong:

* The polish. I didn’t have had enough time to polish my game. Also, it gets boring after some time.

* The cuts. Since this game is a FruitNinja-like, I made the fruits to be cut in 2 halfes. Sadly, every time the same. I planned to cut them off, where they actually were cut-off, like when you drag trough the middle, the part gets split in the middle.

* The menu, I only focused on the game, so the menu and the game-over screen were to simple, wich might be a plus because the theme is “minimalism”.

So, thats it.

Hope you’ll try my entry.
