Ludum Dare 47

It's Game Dev Time!

Well, after increasing my skills for years I'm finally ready for a game jam! I missed Ludum Dare earlier this year, so I can't wait for LD47! I can't wait to see what other developers come up with! Well, I guess I'll say my tools of choice too. - Engine: Construct 3 - Code: A little bit of Event System, a little bit of JavaScript - Art: Construct 3 In-Engine Image Animator - Sound: Probably GarageBand or something.

Glad to see a theme I voted for!

Well, I wanted this theme. Half an hour in and I don't have a single Sprite. This theme is a prediction, I'm brainstorming right now and I keep thinking the same ideas over and over again!

Glad to see a lot of creativity from everyone!

Finally starting to work on my player! I'm embracing this theme: looping music, looping animations, looping loops, etc. I'm loving the ideas everyone has! Can't wait to try out other people's games!

My player!

Gaze upon my beautiful placeholder graphics. I'll draw the real player tomorrow.

Almost out of time...

Well, less than two hours left. I blew yesterday on almost nothing. I still have to draw my player and finish up game design! Let's see if I make it!

HOLY COW!

YES! Finished fixing up a bug with 1.5 seconds left!! Getting web hosting ready.

Outside The Loop made it!

I finished my game, Outside The Loop, with 1.5 seconds left in the development stage of LD47! Anyone want to try it? It's a platformer with a fun twist. And of course some loops to get stuck in, since it's LD47!

Come try it out! Thanks to the positive feedback I've been getting from players, Outside The Loop should be getting a full version available soon! I wasn't able to implement all that I wanted to, but the full version will be epic!

Rating Exchange

All right! I need some games to play! Whoever leaves feedback on my game, Outside The Loop, and posts a game link here will get their game played! Here are some details on what could impress me the most:

Moderate Difficulty (I like a challenge, but not too hard)

Short or endlessly looping games (I'll probably be getting a bit of recommendations!)

A game good for age-diverse audiences (I believe it's good, in a jam, to have something for everyone)

Got a game that sounds like I'd enjoy it? Leave feedback on my game Outside The Loop and leave a link here. I'll rate your game!

READ ME!!!!!!

That's how you do a title!

I'll be releasing a list of some of the best games this jam later. If you're a developer, do you think you made it on to my list? If you're a player, do you think you might be able to find your next favorite game? Stay tuned!

What I Did Do & What I Didn't Do (By The Way, I Need Some Games To Play)

I don't know if anyone cares about hearing about my game, but if anyone does care, here you go!

If anyone is wondering what the heck I'm talking about, it's this game of mine here:

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/outside-the-loop

Totally free to play! I recommend Google Chrome, since it supports WebGL and WebGL2 at beyond-optimal level. Almost anything will work though, whether it's Edge, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.

WHAT I MANAGED TO ACCOMPLISH:

  • I made a game in way less than 72 hours! I didn't feel like any all-nighters so it was way less than 72 hours.
  • I made a menu and starting screen. For some reason that was the first thing I did.
  • Ummm, let me think. I made all of my transitions and animations work! (Barely. I almost screwed up my transitions, which I'm not surprised about.)
  • I managed to actually finish and host my game so people can play it! (Also barely. I finished killing code bugs 1.5 seconds before the deadline.)
  • And completely unrelated to my game development, I managed to play some great games from my fellow game developers!

WHAT I DIDN'T MANAGE TO DO BECAUSE I RAN OUT OF TIME QUICKLY:

  • Make some professional-looking graphics. I'm rolling with the good ol' hand-drawn graphics! Still proud of them though, I have a soft spot for hand-drawn graphics. (Hint hint! That's the key to intriguing me, either hand-drawn or retro 8-bit.)
  • Make a complete tutorial. Let me know if you need help.
  • Make some background music. Again, terrible use of my time and I didn't have even 30 minutes to put some music together. Please respect the fact I managed to distort a synth enough to put in a sound effect for my fantastic players.

OVERALL:

My game is great (developer's pride), and I'd love some feedback! If you think I could win LD47 thanks to my dedication to the theme, thanks! If you're looking for another game, I'll be posting a list of my ultimate favorites this jam! Stay tuned a couple hours. Also, if you're reading this, you might be one of the people who developed my favorite games this jam!

Important PS: I need some games to play. I went crazy gaming and my 30+ games to-play list is down to like three. Comment some links to your Windows or HTML5 (that's preferred) game and I'll play it!

Favorite LD47 Games & Comment Your Games!

I'm tired of browsing "all games" looking to see if anything catches my eye. I'll go with the faster technique: Comment your game down below and I'll play it!

Well, I've been saying for a while that I'd release a list of what I think are the best games this Ludum Dare. It's time for the eight best games, according to my opinions! They're all really good.

(Spoiler alert: I already revealed to some of the developers that they get to be on the list.)

MY EIGHT FAVORITE GAMES:

(Note: most of these are not in order because I didn't feel like picking favorites that intensely.)

-- Anything For You

An emotional narrative game about family and the past.

-- Defuse In Under 5

You don't have long before the bomb blows up! But don't worry, you're stuck in a loop.

-- Office Dating Simulator 2020

Bored of being the mail guy? Try starting a relationship with someone and see how it ends!

-- Save The Prince

An epic 3D virtual board game about the quest to free the prince.

-- Box Hole

Your job: drop the boxes in the boxhole. Do not ever disobey the rules!

-- Stuck In Paris

Try and get out of the Place Charles de Gaulle in Paris without causing an awesome car wreck!

-- Lunar Loop

You're alone in the space station. You have to manage your health and the station at the same time, so make sure to watch out for warnings!

-- Loopamonium

You, the red cube, must master being stuck in a loop to clear the levels!

Well, that's my eight favorite games! Some of these still need some more ratings, so please help them out!

I've played dozens of great games this jam and couldn't name all of them, so if you don't see your game on this list, don't worry! If I haven't even played your game, give me a link in the comments down below!

And of course if you want yet another recommended game, my play-in-the-browser game is

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/outside-the-loop

Help Wanted

All right, everyone! Making gifs of your games, characters, development stories, or whatever is one of the most fun things. Anyone got recommendations for gif-making software that meets my criteria?

  • Free
  • Simply upload or record a video and convert it to .gif
  • Not a scam

I'd really appreciate some gif maker recommendations! Speaking of recommendations, I need some games to play since my famous to-play list is down to a mere 8 games. Post your links if they are HTML5 (web)! (I'll tolerate Windows download links too, but downloading games is getting tiresome. I've already downloaded like 30 games. HTML5 is preferred.)

Running Out Of Time!

Less than eight days to play and rate games, developers and gamers! Get your game on while you can and rate some games!

And The Winner Is...

...Going to be announced in less than a week!!

[Edit] I'll be releasing a list of the top three games I have nominated for the categories I invented soon! The categories are things like storytelling, comedy, and out-of-the-box ways to use the theme!

Wow!

After only 16 days, my game Outside The Loop has 200 plays already! Thank you so much everyone! (Of course, some plays are non-Ludum Dare gamers, but this number is still incredible for only a little over 2 weeks)

Oh No! Almost Done!

Less than 4 days left now! I'll be releasing a list of some of the games that can win categories in a little bit!

Another Grateful Thanks!

Another shout-out/huge thanks to @moski for giving out incredible sketches of games!
