I'm in!

(This post used to say that I was using the old site but that won't work at all so this one it is!)

I'll be using: •Game Maker Studio 1 •Sfxr/Bfxr •Some procedural music tools

New Player Character, Hitpoints, Death and Music!

http://imgur.com/gallery/R1bvI

So, I finally got around to making a new character! I also added hitpoints, a death animation and some music generated with cgMusic.

I've also decided to take this opportunity to explain my game idea (something I should have done to begin with). The game is going to be an action platformer where every level is a tiny metroidvania.

Power-ups and level 1!

I added some power-ups and level 1 is almost done. No sound effects b'cuz reasons.

I'M IN!

Yup, doing this again!

Really like the theme alternatives this time so really looking forward to it

IT'S ALIIIIVVVVEEEE!!!!

LD39 movement!.gif

I now have basic movement in place. Not quite as advanced as my last LD game but this time I want to make a more complex game in general. (The space on the top is for the HUD)

I'm going for the quite simple premise of power being your ammo, your health and petty much your everything.

A lil' dood!

Player sprite done. Still needs a few animations, though.

GRAFFIX!!!!

LD39 graffix!.gif

I now have the graphics for Mars's surface

Enemies and bullets!

LD39 Enemies.gif I've added some enemies! They don't do much at the moment but hey, they exist. I've also started work on shooting.

Intro stage

LD39 Intro.gif Been working on an intro stage. (Most of the game will take place on board an alien spaceship)

Day 1 progress

I think I'm done programming for today. Might do some music and sound efects but no new features untill tomorrow.

Here's what I have so far:

Mars 9 is done!

It was technically done yesterday (as it's a compo game) but I was too tired to make an announcement post.

ld39 1.jpg

Mars 9 is a game where you play as a robot who needs power to live, but shooting electrical blasts is his only form of attack, so you can't just go in shooting everything Rambo style.

Check it out! (iff you want to): https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/mars-9

Mars 9 postmortem type dealio

Mars 9 is a short platformer about a robot created for the LD39 compo.

It can be played hee:

While I'm really pleased with how the game turned out there are a few things I would like to have done differently.

What went well?

  • I managed to actually finish the game
  • I'm pretty pleased with the main concept of the game
  • This is the first game I've ever made with a proper design document
  • According to the reviews the game looks and sounds good (Fun fact: All the game's graphics could theoretically be displayed on a real NES)

What went slightly less good

  • The game's really unfair at times
  • The thing's too bloomin' short. The game was originally supposed to have 16 levels split across 4 acts. Well, that didn't excactly happen now, did it? (As a matter of fact the two songs that play on the intro stage were created as stage music for acts 2 and 3)
  • Those bloody blue enemies! Why did I put them there!? They're not fun, they're just in the way!
  • I should have created more enemy types to make the game a bit more varied

What went waaaayyyy down the toilet?

  • I spent the vast majority of the voting time at the scouting Jamboree in Kristianstad so I haven't been able to rate very many games leading to mine barely having any at all.
