MiDriPod – Postmortem But Still Alive!

If my humble entry wasn’t a true success, at least with one more week of work, it looks like something. As usual 24 hours wasn’t enough. I’ll try harder (and faster) next time. But for now, you can have a look at what it’s slowly becoming at www.gardn.fr!

My friends said it’s impossible to make a RTS for a Ludum Dare. I tried to show them it’s possible. Actualy I didn’t :) But I’m still trying to make one! Hey, fight and hostil AI are the next steps on my TODO list!

New features (since Ludum’s end):

  • Passing diagonally is no more a bug: it’s a feature!
  • New resource: the power-gem (green) is needed to produce energy!
  • New building: the energy stash store energy!
  • It now has a tutorial!
  • Better cave design, now with harder rock!
  • Mining Drones (MiDro) now autonomously mine and refuel!!!

LD34

This was my best LD!

I remember my first LD, years ago. Does someone remember when was “You are the villain”? I tried hard but posted nothing! Then I grew better at building something in two days. I only posted a functional “thing” once, since (MiDriPod, for “Beneath the Surface”). But it had no goal or victory condition. T_T

But this time… this time I made something complete. It has a beginning, an end, and some challenge in between. And I’m so proud of that. I mean, it’s far from perfect, or truly fun, or bug-free, even. But it has a “victory” trigger that can be reached. And for me, it means a lot.

That’s why I now take the time to look back and remember my crappy first LD’s (non-)entry. To this younger me, I want to say something. And I will say it to every young you that will be a-bit-less-young soon: keep it up! No matter what, failing isn’t a problem. It’s just one more step toward victory. Don’t be ashamed (as I was) for posting something crappy, or not posting at all. As each failure is a step toward achievement, each failure isn’t a true failure.

I believe in you. Keep it up!

… And, y’know. Play and vote! 😉
