I'm going to finish my Jam game!
I wasn't sure going into today, but I'm almost done. This is as much on manifesting as it is on reality.
I wasn't sure going into today, but I'm almost done. This is as much on manifesting as it is on reality.
I submitted my first Ludum Dare game to the Jam just a few minutes ago. It's less finished than I expected 5 hours ago, more finished than I expected 72 hours ago, and a trillion times more finished than my 11-year-old self could have dreamed of.
Having worked on the same game for 3 years, it was truly a thrill to spend 3 days on a game. It's even more of a thrill to release it, my first! Of course, there were a million more things I wanted to add, but I'm sure by my 5th Ludum Dare, that won't surprise me anymore. Plus, I'm kind of glad I have more work to do on the game.
Excited to play a bunch of games and get some feedback in the next couple weeks!

This Ludum Dare, I made a jam game called A City Minute. It's intended as an open world exploration game, with a delivery-themed narrative quest that gets you out and exploring! You run quickly, and the world is full of ledges for you jump around on.
Unfortunately, I can't patch out the confusing placement of some of the key characters, but I can make a walkthrough guide in case you get stumped!

Getting Started
A City Minute is a mini-city with 3 streets. They're each connected by intersections indicated by the red boxes below. In game, you'll know there is an intersection if there's a street sign, or the statue. There, you'll be prompted to switch streets either up or down!

In the pictures below, the red S on Main Street is the starting building and the red numbers indicate the order to talk to people to progress the story (1-indexed).
Main Street:

Park Lane:

Ocean Drive:

Task 1 - Bad News
To start, leave your apartment to Main Street (marked S on above), then head over to Ocean Drive by walking to the intersection and switching to Park Lane, then walking to the statue and switching to Ocean Drive.

Talk to the person labeled 1. This guy will be your task-giver for the remainder of the game. Head to Park Lane and talk to the person in Purple at 2. They'll want you to talk to their friend in Base12 apartment building on Ocean Drive at 3. Enter the building, and jump up to Apartment B. Inside Apt. B, you'll find the next person to talk to.

Amazing work, you finished your first task!!
Task 2 - A Triangle Gets Its Wings
When you're ready, head back to the task-giver on Ocean Drive, Label 4. You'll be making a package delivery. Head to Fashionable Pixels on Park Lane at label 5. After talking to the clerk inside, you need to head to the sewer cap at label 6, where you can enter the sewer. Talking to the mysterious triangle will complete the mission.

Task 3 - A Baby Is Born
Last task! Go back to the task-giver at Label 7 on Ocean Drive. A baby is going to be born. Jump your way to Label 8, and enter the hospital (white building). The nurse can give you instructions, or I can just tell you that you need to go to the very top-left room.

Congrats, you beat the game! I dedicate the statue at the center of town to you!
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed the game, and had a chance to explore and talk to some characters outside of their tasks! I really loved making the game and am so happy to have people playing it and giving feedback on it. Thank you!!!
P.S. If you're interested in speedrunning, my best time is 1 minute 15 seconds.
