Ludum Dare 47

My second ludum dare is done, try my game Flying Saucer Scramble!

I have a finished game! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/flying-saucer-scramble

It's come a long way since the prototype: prototype.gif

What an emotional rollercoaster! This was my second Ludum Dare and I wasn't sure I'd have anything playable this time. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to implement the mechanics and had to cut a lot of features and content. Sadly, I also still haven't figure out how to make music quickly.

I wasn't able to finish in time to submit to the Compo but the Jam will do.

Missed the compo, but finished something for the Jam!

Try my game and play as a mountain goat stuck in a landslide.

I used Pico-8 for development since I find the all-in-one capabilities handy and it forces me to keep my scope small. However, I have to code everything from scratch and as a novice programmer, this makes technical features and bugs very time consuming! I was fighting serious bugs until the very end.

I spent too much time on getting the collision and ground fluctuation working without bugs, I had no time left over for graphics, sound, or music. It could use some more tuning, and there's a long list of cut features, but hopefully it's still compelling and worth a few minutes of play time.

Taking shape, but Compo looking unlikely

My game about an urban food truck delivery alien is starting to come together! Lots of critical features need to be implemented still in order to make this an actual game though. It's starting to look like I won't be finished in time to submit to the Compo.

Not the full vison, but it felt good to submit a game again!

I fell short of my vision for my game, but it felt good to be able to submit something after not finishing anything the past for Ludum Dares. Once again, Pico-8 was a good choice because if feels limiting in a way that forces me to limit my scope and consider what I can actually achieve. Even then though, it's easy to get lost running down rabbit holes and finding yourself without time to add critical things like sound and music!

I ended up really enjoying the core of my game, which isn't always the case. I intend to continue working on it and release a more complete post-jam version when I find the time, so any additional feedback would be really appreciated!
