All set!

I'll be using Quick (github.com/quick-developers/quick), a simple ES6-friendly Javascript game library. I will also be live coding (either Twitch or Youtube live) for a good portion of the competition. So give me a follow!

I should also mention that, man, this website design is confusing. I have two friends who were also considering to participate and weren't able to find their way to get more information. That kinda drove them away. Maybe ldjam.com should consider a redesign?

Happy coding, everyone!

In before...

...everyone starts complaining about the theme.

Yeah, didn't like most of the options that were up for vote. But truth be told, that's because I already have a few game ideas on my head and they didn't fit the themes. I guess most participants are in the same boat, so let's all try to not blame the theme for our lack of creativity.

My plan for tonight is to think of a concept and set everything up and then have a good long night of sleep. Saturday and Sunday I plan to work from 4 to 6 hours, with the first few on Twitch (or Youtube live) being more of a tutorial for Quick. But that depends of the game I'll be making.

Good luck everyone

Finally starting

Here we go. I finally decided that the game is going to be a Breakout/Platformer.

Think Arkanoid where Mario paddles the ball. The goal is to break bricks and/or enemies at the top while you try to survive on the platform. If the ball touches the ground, it breaks, leaving you with less room to move . Here's a basic concept art:

I think it will be cool. I wasted a lot of time setting up Twitch and it didn't work very well, so I'll just post updates here from now on.

Some progress

I got the basic platformer and ball bouncing code going and have been adjusting proportions and the gameplay for a while now. There are a few bugs that I won't fix right now to avoid introducing complexity while I'm still moving things around.

Final stretch

There's no way I can finish everything I planned, but the game is quite playable.

Here's what's left: - Better animation code - Bug fixes - Sound effects - Start menu, scene transition and dying - Better level designs

And less than 2h left. Oh boy :).

Far from finished, but I'm pleased with the result

Title says it all. It has no sound and it was barely tested, but the concept is quite fun. Hope you enjoy as well. It can be played directly from the browser here:https://staudt.github.io/SuperBreakoutBros/
