Destroyed - Post Mortem

The start

The theme was perfect for the type of game I had in mind and my original vision is pretty much the completed game. A few things weren't implemented in time and a few extra things were added but it worked out well in the end.

What's missing

Originally, I wanted to include EMP missiles to temporarily disable enemy movement and lasers, but I wanted the player to be able to disable multiple UFOs at once and there wasn't time to code that.

I had also wanted to include an upgrade system to increase missile damage, increase reload speed, unlock different weapons, etc. but (again) no time.

A way to pause. This should've been done at the start of day 1 but I forgot and didn't realise in time.

A back story. There must be a reason the aliens are attacking the planet. Use your imagination, I guess?

Difficulty and bugs

Having two different modes (two minute survival mode and an endless mode) turned out well, although the game balance is a bit off. Easy difficulty is far too easy and hard difficulty is probably too hard. Normal is just right though.

Most bugs I encountered were related to not cleaning up properly after a game finishes. For example, not resetting a counter or not properly removing old collision objects. That's definitely something I need to work on next time.

The end

My choice of engine (love2d) worked really well for me, although next time I'd really prefer a web game so people can play it more easily.

I'm happy with the final game. The idea perfectly suited my abilities, I implemented most things, and my programmer art wasn't too terrible.
