Not sure

Hey,

I’m not sure to attend the LD this WE (from France) as I’m exhausted by the game I just finished (Age of Enigma: The Secret of The Sixth Ghost).

In case I’m OK this WE, I wanted to disclose the language and framework I planned to use:

– BlitzMax
– Rockford mini-framework (self made) : https://github.com/dmekersa/RockFrameWork

Cheers!

David

I’m in with monkey

I’m in.
It will be my second LD.
I don’t have enough time to work the 48h, so I’ll try to create something in 4-5 hours.
Tools: monkey (html5), allegro sprite editor, sfxr (Mac port).

See you!

[LD26] Starting just now… but got an idea!

Regarding the theme, I decided to go with a gameplay I would like to implement, and think it as minimalist…

I will go with a 2D top view car racing game, with a bit of retro style, and very minimalist in everything: code, visual, gameplay… but still fun to play.

I will work 1 hour today, then 2 or 3 hours tonight… and same (or less) tomorrow. It’s quite a 8 hours Game Jam for me… Actually, my time is minimalist as well :)

1st screen

1st screen

First screen after 10 mn of work… the car have animated tires (just flicking colors…) and can move left to right with the arrow keys…

Did I mention the tools?
– Language: Monkey (amazing tool!!!) exporting HTML5, using the internal Ted IDE
http://monkeycoder.co.nz/
– Framework: Diddy for Monkey (lack documentation but clean and simple to display sprites and manage screens)
https://code.google.com/p/diddy/
– Sprite editor: Asesprite (looks like my old Deluxe Paint…)
http://www.aseprite.org/
– Sound editor: Cfxr (Sfxr port for Mac)
http://thirdcog.eu/apps/cfxr

Nothing more…

[LD26] Mini Car Racing, Work in Progress!

Screen Shot 2013-04-27 at 4.39.43 PM

As you can see, after 2 hours more of work, I have speed and turns working and the car can crash if its collide with the border of the road.

I want now to add more smooth to the turns, an increasing difficulty and some obstacles: oil, crates and other cars!

[LD 26] Mini Car Racing I did it!

MCR_SC1

It’s done!

While I was about to add a lot of features, I remembered the theme… So I focused more on the difficulty curve and the demo page aspect.

I hope you’ll like playing the final version.

Total amount of work is about 10 hours… far less than the 48 allowed right? But during the Week End I managed to get the idea, to implement and submit the game + having fun with friends, my wife and my kids. Cool Week End!

[LD 26] MINI CAR RACING – Almost done?!!! PLAYABLE DEMO!!!

MINI CAR RACING STATUS!
Minimalist Retro Gaming Racing Car Game

6 or 7 hours of work until now, and almost done…

menu1

gameplay2

That amazing! If someone reads me… I have now:
– a Minimalist menu
– a Minimalist gameplay with smooth curves, road width changes, obstacles cars and oil stains
– A Minimalist difficulty curves

With only a minimalist 440 lines of code including craps…

And, my god, it’s not so bad to play!

Did I say: I’m in?

Hey there, I’m a professional game creator and consultant based in South of France.

I’m in for the 3rd time (but with gaps between each of my contributions…).

I will jam for around 10-20 hours during the 48 hours, as usual.
Will use Love2D this time with a minimal amount of code…

Thanks for your attention :).

A lot of progress here with collisions, explosions, sounds, logo…

Let me disclose the idea: A scramble game (horizontal shmup) + a basic Metal Slug, on one screen divided in 5 levels (linked, if you reach the right of level 1 you start at level 2…).

Very playable and very fun. Quite proud…

Level 1 and 2 are running. The level 1 is basically just the land off of the ship.

I have a ship (the hero!), a basic land off animation, moving probes, bullets (from the ship and from the mighty probes), bombs, and I’m able to destroy the probes and detect ship collisions.

Level 4 will be in a Jeep and level 5 at feet with a gun!

Entire game on one screen??? And what about entire code in one file?? That’s what I do haha! 500 lines of code so far.

I’m done… Now need to package and submit

Capture d’écran 2014-12-07 à 20.43.11

I did it!

I created an entire game in one screen. Around 1000 lines of code (Lua / Love2D), all from scratch, with 3 very different games phases: shoot them up, side view car rush (Metal Slug like), and platformer!

It tooks me around 15 hours of work. Amazing…

Now I need to package the game for submission… Stay tuned.

A full retro-arcade game with 5 levels on one screen

3553-shot0

I submit yesterday but forgot to mention it here!

Play SCRAMBLE SLUG Now! Comments welcome…

Please test my game here : http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=3553

A whole arcade game on one screen:
– Land off with your space ship
– Cross the space and avoid enemy probes
– Fly over the town, beware of the rockets!
– Drive an armored Jeep to penetrate the enemy base!
– Walk with your gun in the enemy territory to destroy the nuclear core!!

How to play:
– Press space to land off
– Use arrows keys: left to reduce speed, up/down to move, right to increase speed
– Press X to fire, C to drop a bomb
– Destroy the fuel tanks or you’ll run out of fuel!
– In the Jeep, press up + X to fire at the roof
– At walk, press up to jump, fire a bomb on the core to win

The game is hard, but it’s by purpose! Enjoy!

Making of:
– This game was made in 15 hours with Love2D on a Mac Book Pro
– Every line of code (around 1000) is made from scratch
– I’m 43 years old, and my real work is to produce video games…
– I’m a big fan of retro gaming, so the game is inspired by retro games
– Sounds from SFXR, art made with PyxelEdit

Excellent little game and so well fitting for the theme. Difficulty just right. Will add a review once I can (need to submit my Jam game first).

LD34

Still no real idea but some code…

I still don’t know what to do after half a day.

But I improved my engine with some objects, floor levels… I have something in mind regarding “two buttons control” but not sure it will be fun. I’ll give a try.

For now, I’m almost spending all my time making the isometric assets, I’m so bad and no experience with this. I will limit the visuals to avoid waste my time.

Pour les français (for the french…)

Au passage, avec un jour de retard, un petit encouragement en vidéo pour les français qui veulent tenter le LD… et particulièrement pour ceux qui ne savent pas programmer :)

(a shot french video I made to encourage people to try the LD even with no programming skill :))

Santa goes to town… and died falling of a wall… too bad!

ESRB_AOI’m quite happy with what I have today. A playable game, with (poor) 3D isometric visuals, coded with the great Love2D framework.

The theme I stick is “Two button controls“, and I’m sure my control mode (mouse buttons used to rotate the character direction…) will make people mad!

The game is quite trash as the Santa is dying a lot! Not sure to get my ESRB rating under 18…

I will, today, continue to add some content and levels to reach 10 levels then polish the menu, and other stuffs.

Here are the first levels :

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ Captureday2-1 Captureday2-2 Captureday2-3
