I’m new and ready and in.

Hi, I’m Ryan. I basically just started with game dev after the GameMaker Humble Bundle. My knowledge is limited and mainly comes from the Tom Francis tutorial, and I’ve only made one prototype. I’m all in. I’m excited to do the compo and make myself work. 😀

I’ll also be livestreaming the entire time(twitch.tv/rys0n) as an extra way to keep myself on-course, and I was wondering what to put down as the “game”, because the livestream tracker on the front page of LudemDare.com SAYS to use “Ludem Dare”, but most of the people on there are in the Game Development category. I’m assuming it’s a combination, prioritizing “Ludem Dare”?

I’ll also be tweeting screenshots and gifs at twitter.com/Rys0nburger. AND I’ll probably be in the IRC quite a bit to stay sane. Other than that, that’s pretty much me. Super excited to make a game :)

During the Ludum Dare competition, many people (as far as I know) use the Ludum Dare as a game. If you have limited knowledge, I strongly urge you (from my own experience) to start with a simple idea, and don’t go too complicated! Just focus on finishing a game, good luck!

AI’s finished! My to-be first ever “published” game is coming along nicely!

I’m so glad I was able to get as far as I have, and with more than 14 hours left! I’ve finished with Player movement, Camera movement and enemy AI, so really the only things left to do are art/music/sounds/level design/menu and mini-map. Oh, and balancing the gameplay. Oh, and bugs. I’m pretty confident that I’ll be able to publish something that I’m proud of though.

I went with using both themes, and I really racked my brain to think of a 2-button player-control mechanic that didn’t use the mouse (because I wanted to challenge myself EVEN MORE, for some stupid reason) until I though of doing something similar to Pac-Man, but where you grow as you eat players. You have to get to a certain size to get past the “gatekeep” at the exit, but if you get too big you’ll get stuck in the tunnelly-levels and it’s game-over. Until this hour, I had no idea what the game was supposed to “BE” in story/context sense, I just went head-first into the mechanics, but I have this idea that I’m pretty excited about. Until then, you can see my awesome programmer art before it disapears into even sadder programmer-art, because I will have TRIED to make it look like something. (See the wooden floor for reference) :p

Can’t wait to publish!
