LD16

I hope to have enought time

I think i’ll partecipate if i’ll find the time, unfortunatly this week i’ve an interview and a
lot of stuff to do for my relocation.
Anyway, if i’ll manage to get somethink ready i think i’ll use bash, no special effects, but
maybe some sound.

CIAO and GOOD LUCK!

I’m a little late

I’m going to start right now with the LD16, 1 day, 3 hours, 29 minutes, 25 seconds left.
That’s a good time to make something playable, and in the last 2 hours i’ve got some time to think about a design.
At the first time i was thinking about a roguelike, bu i see there are some already at a good point.
My entry will be with roguelike graphics as it will be done in bash, but with a different gameplay.

c-ya in a couple of hours!

News: @ is walking, simple level generator, save/load

You might want to upload the screenshots in a format more compatible with web browsers. Most browsers don’t do TIFFs. Try PNG instead.

That’s it!

YEHA, finaly i manage to finish my entry.

It’s not as good as i thought it. That’s not a problem because i known it from the beginning, i was away all day Saturdays.

I’ve got to cut some feature and fly down with the gameplay, but i don’t think you will notice it too much, it’s a roguelike with “an exploration score”.

Congratulation to all people in the LD, this is my first time and i enjoy it very very much. Thanks all, c-ya next time!

Let me know what you think about it, that’s very important for me … and for the next time 8p

Got some problem updating

Hi all, I got some problem updating the [broken] link to my entry, so updated the file position on my server.

Also I cannot write commment on my entry, nor modify what i wrote when i entered. Hoping that it’s only my problem can i ask how do you update you entry?

The download link is, for all operating system:

http://donotjava.netsons.org/download/ludumdare/LD16.zip

On windows you will need cygwin [linux emulator] or something similar [like vmware or other emulator].

Many thanks to pythong that reported the problem.

Waiting for a fix [for my broken brain probably 8) ]:

GOOD VOTING AND TESTING TIME TO ALL!

Ok, i’m an idiot or maybe i got some big brain damage this week 8) Found the “edit my entry” link and all is fine now.

First Crash!

BenHem says …

Crash! :(
|./bashplore: line 83: {-2..2}+15+(15-2)*121: syntax error: operand expected (error token is “{-2..2}+15+(15-2)*121”)
./bashplore: line 96: [: ==: unary operator expected
./bashplore: line 27: {1..20}+{1..20}*20: syntax error: operand expected (error token is “{1..20}+{1..20}*20”)

Nooooooooooo, gona fix it after a film, thanks BenHem

BenHem, don’t understand how you get the error because when i get this kind of error it always say something like File_other_then_bashplore: line … Cannot easly find the bug but i’ll try to fix it, that’s a promise 8p

Cannot reproduce the crash, i’m sorry. If someone manage to get a crash just write it in the game page an i’ll try to fix it.

bashplore post-mortem

From a comment on bashplore’s page:
“dertom says … Hehe,…a game in bash. That is really hardcore :D”.
YYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS It is, but it adds a lot more fun!

What went right:

– bash it’s good, i like its feeling
– bash can do stuff for you
– save/load it’s super-easy
– bash teach you tricks, a lot of tricks! :p
– bash is great for roguelike
– bash give you sound for free!!! [got no time to add some, sorry]

What went wrong:

– bash rendering it’s slow
– bash doesn’t have data structure
– bash syntax it’s a pain
– bash it’s a iper-pain for non-roguelike game
– I was not so good at bash to write a game

Final thought:

– if you want to use bash for a roguelike game, that’s fine but you have to prepare some good utility function BEFORE the 48H.
– if you want to make games other than roguelike, then DON’T USE BASH, NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT BASH!!!!
– if you want to have a great fun makeing a game, just use the strangest programming/scripting language, that’s worth the effort.
– never forget to add graphics using color in the terminal 8)

What next time?

I’ve already some very very sick yet fun idea in mind and i’m already coding something. Keep an eye on samel’s perversion 8) 8) 8)

c-ya next time!

Here we are! My game was started on Saturday at more or less 10:00 and finished right now on Sunday at 23:00.

It’s a play by email game, so you don’t have to download any executable, just send and receive emails 8)

You can get the help in html format in your email inbox just by sending an email with “help” as the body to industrymld19@lavabit.com
The help can also be find in the game list area here : gamepage .

That’s… not something I’ve seen before in an LD game. Huh. Well done.
14. Jun 2010 · 00:36 UTC
Interesting!

Something gone bad … sorry

Hi all, i’ve to apologize but tonight i’ve seen that some player sent some email to get a game help, a report and create a new account. The game run a turn each day at 4:00, so i’ve to start another program to replay to HELP and REPORT command every 5 minutes. The problem is that … i’ve lost your registration email so you have to resend it. Sorry, my bad! [you should receive HELP and REPORT if your command was that one]

Now the game replay each HELP and REPORT mail in 5 minutes and make a game turn each night at 4:00.

Hope someone will subscribe this game cause that’s not so fun to play alone 8p

Haha…that was probably me. 😀 No one else wanted to play? Really? Huh…Well, I’ll resend my “new” email. (I did get the “report” one.)

Good to hear that some message arrived. Thanks. Good luck for the game!
15. Jun 2010 · 18:16 UTC
Some suggestions: 1) You should have a link to the game rules or game home page on the bottom of each email. 2) You should have the ability to send more than one command in an email. (Unless you can do that already? It’s not clear from the game page.)

Is the new command processed at the 24h interval as well? I sent an e-mail, but it’s a bit hard to know if it worked.
samel
15. Jun 2010 · 18:49 UTC
Jolle, only “help” and “report” are processed “realtime” [every 5 min]

Anyway, your command will fail, and i think you already know that 8)

Sorry to bother you again, but I sent a “hire 40” command, but it seems it didn’t register. No response on the command, and from the report I can tell nothing happened. Just checking to see what I did wrong. I replied to the report mail and replaced the body with the command. The subject wasn’t cleared though, does it have to be?
samel
17. Jun 2010 · 18:28 UTC
I’ve no email with “hire 40”, just one with ‘hire 20’ but that isn’t your. Anyway, all command except HELP and REPORT are executed at 4.00 am.

Hi again, I’ve sent three “del Bug Company” commands but nothing have happened. Could you remove me manually?
02. Jul 2010 · 16:41 UTC
It’s an interesting idea, but I think the game is too simplistic…It could also use some more documentation, perhaps a tutorial. Just an example of what basic things the player should do…then leading into what choices the player should make.
02. Jul 2010 · 16:50 UTC
Also, I’ve noticed that all the game reports appear in HTML…even though my mail reader should be able to handle the HTML, it doesn’t actually display it AS HTML…it has all the tags showing up.

Jumping in late

Hi all,
i think i’m in, not shure if i’ll enought time to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Anyway past ludum dare where a lot of fun hope this will be the same.

I’ve coded some shi**y lib which together form a shi**y framework the last 4 days, so here it is: http://code.google.com/p/ludumdareengine/
Use it at your own risk! Do not try it at home! You may experience some serious injury if you look too close at the soruce 8)
It’s written in C using GLUT and OPENGL. It runs on macos [latest verion] and linux [slackware ~10] and i think there will be no problem porting it to windows.
It has some memory management feature [something like an enanced garbage collector], some debug and timeing function, minimal udp client-server functions, a state machines to manage games states and a rle files compression.

c-ya “on the road”

YEAH, I made it! Out of ammo … is OUT!

It’s not a great game and it has a minimalistic gfx. For now no sound cause my framework is in an early stage.

You can check it out from http://code.google.com/p/outofammo/source/browse/#svn/trunk as well as download a binary version for mac os x [intel] and linux [i’ll upload them asap edit: asap == tomorrow 8p sorry].
It should not be a problem to make it compile under windows.

I think i’ll use tomorrow to polish it and maybe add some music.

Now, back to work 8)

Could you upload an executable version as well please? I don’t have a C compiler and I don’t know how to use one.

That is, if it is in C.
