Ludum Dare 58

My first game jam is done

It was both stressful and fun! During development, everything I was afraid of actually happened — from unexpected problems to last-minute chaos. I didn’t manage to fully finish the game, and in the last 20 minutes, I even ran into build issues.

Still, I learned a lot throughout the event, and it made me want to join more game jams in the future. The journey has just begun! 4.jpg

My first game jam ever is over

It was my first ever game jam, and here are my results: ld58result.png

Honestly, I’m not sure whether that’s good or bad, but I’m really happy I took part in it. Participating in Ludum Dare was an incredible experience, and I learned a lot throughout the process. Regardless of the scores, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned in 174 days!

Excited for my second LD

LD58 was my first ever game jam and I got into the top 33% participating solo in the JAM category. This time I'm going to try the COMPO and hope to improve my personal best. It would be huge to get into the top 10%. I feel a lot more confident and prepared.

It's going to be challenging since I'm a UE dev mainly, but Unity is my choice for jams.

Any advice from more experienced participants?

Good luck to everyone!

Scared as s**t

I’m entering the compo this time, but of course something came up, so I'm down to less than 1.5 days to make it work. Turned on prep mode - essentially learning how to draw, write music and generate sound effects :D

Just to make sure

I have one more hour after timer ends for submission in compo, right? I'm nervous and really don't want to miss the deadline

My first COMPO - Cardboard Delivery Service

Cardboard Delivery Service

Hi jammers! I'm happy to share that I successfully submitted my game for the COMPO.

Feel free to play the game and leave feedback - I’d love to hear your thoughts! ButtonGamePage.png

The Idea

You work in the Cardboard Delivery Service. But you don’t deliver cardboard - you are made of cardboard, and instead you deliver handshake packets between radio towers so they can exchange signals.

Your service specializes in establishing connections across the entire network. Try yourself on a one-day shift and bring the network online.

Development Process

At the end of the second day, it honestly felt impossible to finish. With only 4 hours left, I had no sound in the game and no level at all. But I managed to pull something together in the end.

I feel like this is my best game jam entry ever. Even though it's my fourth jam (second Ludum Dare, first LD COMPO), and I previously participated in jams lasting 10 and 14 days, I'm still the most proud of this one.

It was a lot of fun — and very little sleep :D

After my first Ludum Dare (58), I set a goal to attend every Ludum Dare. So the news about LD ending was a bit disappointing :(

Thanks to everyone hosting and participating in Ludum Dare - it’s always a great experience.

Good luck to those submitting to the JAM! I hope you all manage to finish your games, and that we’ll have a great time playing them. LongCardboardThin.png

You won't regret it

5,000+ Views and a Newgrounds Frontpage!

It’s been a wild week since the jam ended! I wanted to share a quick update on how Cardboard Delivery Service has been doing over on Newgrounds. VanDrive.gif

The reception has been way better than I expected for a Compo entry:

  • Daily Rank: 4th Place (April 24th)

  • Frontpaged: April 25th

  • Current Score: 3.92 / 5.00

It’s been awesome seeing people enjoy the game. I’ve also been reading through all the feedback, and I’m already planning a post-jam updates. I also added tutorial for the new version, uploaded on newgrounds, and it also features a scoreboard. Huge thanks to everyone who has played and voted so far. If you haven't checked it out yet, you can play it here: ButtonGamePage.png

My first COMPO

VanDrive.gif Not too bad, huh?

Honestly, the results are better than I expected, even if they're lower than I had hoped for. I’ll gladly take it! :)

A huge thank you to every participant for an amazing weekend of development and the weeks of rating that followed. I discovered so many cool games and had a blast playing through them.

Ludum Dare has such a unique vibe. I was excited for the entire duration of the jam - nothing else quite matches that feeling.

See you all on October 16th! LDresult.png
