This is my first LD submission ever, and while I could have carved out more time to work on this game, my goal this weekend was to "learn the ropes" of EVERYTHING (from learning how to jam to submitting the game on here!). I have made a few games while I was in a small start up company about 5+ years ago, but the company has since tilted into different markets. It has always been a dream of mine to create and build games that are meaningful to me. I have come to a point in my life where I realize I am not getting any younger and I want to try and make my world in the world somewhere, somehow.
So I kicked my butt into high gear, having lurked these jams for ages, to finally decide and try out this jam.
Tools used:
* Visual Studio 2017
* SDL2
* Gimp
My work background mainly consists of PHP, JavaScript and C#. So lately I have been trying to learn C++ with SDL2. I have been following a great YouTube series "Remaking Cavestory in C++" and I was able to take what I have learned so far from the videos to make this game. There is still much I can learn, so the game will be very limiting.
Hopefully my ideas come across in the theme alright. "Running out of power" interpreted in this game is a flash light losing its power. And since it is hand cranked, I wanted to create a mechanic that forces the player to use both hands to power up the flash light (hence why the two keys to power it up are so far apart). I thought these were interesting ideas and (in a better programmed game) could create some intense moments where you are fending off some monsters but have to power up your flash light before you can do anything else. Could create quite a scare!
Hopefully you guys enjoy, feedback is greatly appreciated!
